Unveiling my quilting studio!

Some of you may know that about 4 months ago I purchased a delightful, rambling, 90 y.o. house. She's a real character (just like me!)- added on to and remodeled many times over the years. This house has 8 different levels! Some are only a step up or down, some are a few steps- and there's an upstairs, too. I am finally getting all settled in- The HairyButt Gang made it theirs from Day One.

I just now (today!) finished unpacking and organizing my studio. It's a former breezeway between the family room and the master bedroom- it was already enclosed and finished when I moved here. It still needs a little tweaking, but it's ready to sew! (Sorry but I'm still using WebShots- if you are very careful to not allow your cursor any where but the gray margins on each page- stay away from the ads!- you shouldn't get any annoying sounds. Or just turn off your speakers.)

Welcome to my studio!

That's a terrific setup, Leslie. Were all the cupboards and everything already there or did you install those? I'm envious of your thread cupboard - heck, I'm envious of the whole room!

Thanks! I'm really proud of it. The cabinets are mine. I have been buying them as I could afford it (over many years!) and moving them from house to house when I moved... and I installed all the cabinets all by myself! VBG The room had the wood walls and slate floor and the track lights- so it just had to be my studio with that set-up in place!

It looks wonderful Leslie. And just think - if you wake up in the middle of the night & need a sewing fix, you only have to roll out of bed & voila you are there! I love all the storage & the wall of windows to the yard. I know - too bad you lose wall space, but, it will definitely be a joy to sew in that room. I have a Cheryl Ann Design wall, which is portable

But, maybe you could attach something to the area above the windows that you can roll up when you're not using it? I'm very happy with my design wall. Pauline Northern California

What a great studio! I love the whole thing, but especially the windows. I know what you mean about no place for a design wall. Maybe you can take over a wall someplace else in the house for design.

Wow.

How much of the cabinetry was already there and how much did you put in?

The room was bare except for the track lights, flooring and the wood walls. I have been collecting the cabinets for years- I moved them with me every time I move. The cutting table was my first- acquired in the mid-1990s. And they have a different configuration, to fit the room, in each house.

Thanks, Carole. Well, it won't look like this as soon as I start a project! It'll be knee deep in 'stuff'! And it'll stay that way forever- or until I loose my mind and move again.

Leslie it's wonderful. You have done wonders in the space. I love it and congratulate you on doing it so beautifully. The light is amazing with pretty views outside. The cabinets are such a great use of space, and to have everything shut away is ideal. I'm so pleased for you, and glad that the customizing of your home is progressing so well. . Oh my, Leslie! How fortunate you are to have all of that *space*! And having it so close to your bedroom means that you can sew even if your guests -- if you have any at any given time --can sleep or do what they like without your having to fear disturbing them! It's wonderful! :)

This is absolutely wonderful! I suspect it will be THE place where you hang out in your new home. Will you be putting some old blankets in a corner for naps and a water bowl out for the critters?
