Very Hungry Caterpillar quit and tote bag

I have a friend who teaches Pre-K and she was planning an Eric Carle unit. I saw that Andover had released fabrics featuring the Very Hungry Caterpillar. I immediately ordered the fabric to make a quilt for her to hang in her classroom.

Long story short, I made the quilt at least 3 times till it looked the way I wanted and ended up ordering more fabric to re-do the food borders.

I had so many scraps left that I made tote bags for my nieces, and today I am going to make a doll sized quilt from some of the many leftover strips, also for my friend's classroom.

Here is the link to my flickr page with photos. I'll add the doll quilt when it is finished.

Karen I love it. That is a great example of what can be done with a line of fabric. You used them perfectly and they all compliment each other. Wow! I can't wait to see the doll quilt.

I recently made two tops from the Hungry Caterpillar fabric for my 2 youngest granddaughters. See a photo of one of them at . This is the first time I have made a quilt entirely from one line of fabric, and the first time I have bought every fabric in a line of fabric. (The orange pieces in the outside border are a design change resulting from miscalculating the length of the border :) Now to get them quilted...

Hi Julia,

Very cool! I love how you used the narrow fruit border *and* the wider food border. Nice work. What will you use on the back?

These are fantastic - my kids love the Hungry Caterpillar stories. Will have to watch out to see if the fabric makes it to this side of the Atlantic. Morag
