Walmart Canada Response to questions

I cut and pasted it, just received it this morning. It's a little good news but still doesn't sound that good for the future. Take Care Joanna

Good morning Joanne,

Thank you for your enquiry.

In the U.S. they are deleting fabrics from the stores that are struggling with fabric sales. In Canada, however, we have one new store that opened, that will not be selling fabric by the meter. As with all businesses, we are continuously analyzing its performance and will make the necessary adjustments based on market demand and store demographics.

With the conversion to Supercentres, we have downsized the fabric dept to make room for the expansion of other depts. We are also doing this in our relocations. We are not pulling fabric out from any of our stores and before doing so, we would test in one store first, before making the decision.

Hoping you continue to make Wal-Mart your shopping destination. Regards,

ooooooooh now that makes me a bit happy! The gals here in the fabric dept. though, said that rumor mill has it that one had better purchase it within the year because usually whatever happens in the US stores happens here within the year.

Who knows though. Chains like WM and Zellers and so on do what they want when they want and usually the public just has no choice in the matter. Maybe letters to Zellers to start selling fabric.......hmm....... LOL

If we really want to keep Wal-Mart fabric alive -- put our money where our mouths are.

Make it a point to spend a few dollars every month there -- ON FABRIC. (some of it is decent quality -- and is perfect for those Linus quilts or Meals-on-Wheels place mats.

Only if the department MAKES $$$$ -- will they keep them. We can complain and nag and sign all the petitions we want -- but a business decision is all about $$$$ and ¢¢¢¢¢. If the department doesn't pay for itself (and then some) -- it will make room for products that do. It is a fact of simple economics.

I was just thinking the same thing. Although I must say, even on my ever-shrinking budget, I usually do buy a 1/2 meter of *something* whenever I'm there, whether it's for any specific project or not. :) I can usually find a few dollars for that much. When you're rebuilding a stash, all those 1/2 meters soon add up. :)

Thanks for sharing your letter, Joanna.
