Talked to Walmart CS dept...lol

Well, I decided to call the CS dept of WalMart coroporate offices just to check. Of course, they can't tell you anything on a store-by-store basis, but the gentleman I spoke to was very nice. I gave him the newgroup as well as patternreview.com and told him he might want to send that allong to upper management so that they can see what we are all saying about the department closures. There is an online petition that is almost up to 19,000 signatures against the department closures, and I informed him about that, to which he said he would definitely bring that to the attention of the upper management as well.

Not holding my breath, but you never know .

Did seriously lock him up when I asked if this decision was made by the gentleman who was behind the conversion of the Marshall-Fields stores converting to Macy's because if it was, he should have learned from that mistake when the newly converted stores got picketed. Ah well....we shall see what happens

I read what some of the signers said and I must say, you get more flies with sugar than with vinear. I would hope those who sign the petition would be kinder than some of the "stronger" comments made.

Not to mention that it would help if some of them would check their spelling. ;-)

Eh, Wal-Mart execs have more than made their minds up already. And if those people can get some relief by popping off at them, more power to them.

Better on the petition than at the poor store clerks.

I don't think companies pay very much attention to online petitions - especially when the spelling is terrible, and people say ugly things. They have more important things to deal with. Most of the people signing the petition buy other things there beside fabric. I doubt if they will stop shopping there just because the store no longer sells fabric. I would imagine the percentage of customers buying fabric there is very small compared to the total number of customers buying other items. Maybe they will change their mind, but like Larisa said, I'm not holding my breath.

Well I just came home from Wal-Mart and the all knowledgeable lady in fabric here says that we most likely wont lose ours any time soon. It appears its a run in the USA but here in Canada they are holding back somewhat. She also confirmed what I had thought initially, that since we are an end of the line city, we get all the leftovers and unwanteds and unsellables here. So we should be ok for fabrics for a long time since they ends all get shipped to the rural and outlaying stores.

~KK in BC~ who did buy some fabric yes, but not for quilting. I am making curtains for my new sewing studio!!!! It is done and full and GLORIOUS !!!
