washing ver old quilt with stains

Thanks for your help. I'm not sure what the stains are. The quilt was in a plastic bag and folded for years, so my guess is acid or mildew only they are light brown in color. I will definately bind it first so thanks for telling me do this. I thought about stretching it out and using a spot remover.

The quilt is close to 100 years old and belongs to my husbands 1st cousin. Their Great Aunt made it and I am trying to finish it for her to give to her Great-Grandaughter. So yes it is pretty precious

I suggest you do the binding, and then give it to husband's cousin to decide what if anything to do about the stains!

I agree that you should bind it and then give it to the cousin to wash.. Cloth that is as old as 100 years might tear if you wash it. I would even think 3 times before I used one of that age. Maybe I would display it in one of the guest bedroom to "show off" where it would not receive constant use. Just my 2c worth. Barbara in FL
