what's your favorite while quilting?

I listen to almost everything while doing anything (G) I don't care for most country or rap, but even there there are exceptions.

Between mp3s and cds, I have it pretty well covered from Palestrina to Cradle of Filth. Including eastern music. East Indian ragas are really good for hand quilting, though on something that has just given me fits and coniptions The Planets (Holst) tends to fall into the cd player. Curiously enough I more tend to alternate Marylin Manson with folk music for piecing lately. Antichrist Superstar, The Best of Peter, Paul, and Mary, Holywood, Sink Ye Swim Ye, Portrait of an American Family, Sounds of Appalaichia, etc etc.

Though Ragmop's recent lnk to Melanie Safka has me digging her out of the collection. We are fond of her here because she personally gave us permission to play her music for free on our wee little radio station, including streaming broadcasts online, regardless of what the RIAA or ASCAP has to say.

I have thousands of MP3s on my computer and burnt to CDs from the Napster days before it became illegal. But I like to have the TV on while doing anything pertaining to sewing or quilting.

I absolutely LOVE Snow Patrol!!!! And John Mayer....and U2, and Coldplay! I have a very eclectic mix on my iPod......Neil Young, Tommy Castro, Genesis, Traffic, Journey, Rod Stewart, Garden State and the Last Kiss soundtracks......too many to list them all!

I can only listen to the music (and not an audiobook) when I am alone cuz I love to sing along and the noise that comes out of my mouth IS NOT pretty!!! My family complains.

I love Bible study. Any kind of finger work-cutting, piecing, ironing, housework, etc. I listen to studies by various teachers. That way, I have food for thought, and enjoy whatever job I'm doing, rather than being mentally bored. These are some of my favorites although not an exhaustive list.

One of my favorites is Israel Kamakawiwo'ole -- I LOVE LOVE LOVE his version of Somewhere Over the Rainbow.

I do a lot of Billy Joel... and a lot of Broadway. You can't get too much WICKED or LES MIS or even JOSEPH and the AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT (with my teen heart-throb Donny Osmond!)

We need to talk about Snow Patrol. I love their Eyes Open album. I just put it on. Jim called it too raucously rock. I told him to keep listening until he can hear how complex and melodic it is underneath the beat. I also have Songs for Polar Bears and don't like it nearly as much. There, I agree with Jim. It just sounds poundy and harsh.

What about their others? Would you say that Final Straw, When It's All Over, and The Trip were closer to Eyes Open or to Songs for Polar Bears?

Do you listen to music any other time? I'm still interested in trying out other people's tastes in music, even if you don't listen to it while you sew. I'm very liberal like that. lol

Wicked is WONDERFUL.... it's the backstory for the Wizard of Oz -- fortunately the musical was NOTHING like the book.

The book was very dark... and foreboding.

The musical is fun! Some of my favorite songs include: Dancing Through Life.... Defying Gravity and No Good Deed Goes Unpunished. I also think the song For Good -- would make a great Graduation ceremony song!
