what to mark a quilt with

Duh! I just realized Frigidaire is frigid-air(e). What else would you call a metal box with cold air??? Some days my brain actually amazes me!

I have and use a soapstone pencil. Do like it, but you do have to keep sharpening it and remove the "crust" that forms on it. When it sits the outside sort of hardens a bit more and it won't mark. A bit of sandpaper or sharpening will make it mark again.

Do let us know if you make any other brilliant discoveries, Leslie. That's downright scary. Polly

I'd use 3M painter's tape and be careful not to leave it on the fabric more than a couple of days. It is designed to release, without residue. Mark a few lines, quilt, remove tape, repeat as necessary.

Just be sure to sew beside any tape you might choose, and not through it. You d>Don't know about price comparisons, but look for 3M micropore tape, used to

The only soapstone I know about is for construction use and is way too hard to mark fabric. Debra in VA See my quilts at

I wouldn't use scotch tape but I do use the blue painters tape. It works well and is low tack to it doesn't leave a residue on the fabric like regular tan masking tape could.

My husband is a big Doo-Wop and golden-oldies fan and know the lyrics to most of the songs. Now that I got him Sirius radio for last Christmas, that's all we hear in his car. I keep reminding him that there are probably over 130 stations on Sirius, but he only plays one channel - Golden Oldies!

Anyway, one day he asks me what "chicken slacks" look like. He said one of his favorite songs (Twistin' the Night Away) uses that term but he didn't know what it meant. I explained that the line is "chick in slacks". He had no idea....... Gotta love'm!

Thank you for all the suggestions.

I haven't gotten around to starting the quilting yet, but at least now I'm not as afraid of those large expanses of fabric with no ditches! I've been cranking out those 2006-2007 BOM blocks.
