altered books?

I keep seeing the words "altered books" along scrapbooking stuff. Anybody know what that is? star2fire

Altered books are a form of collage art. You take older books and do all kinds of funky things to the pages, like glue them together, make pop-ups and pop-outs, cut holes and insert embellishments. I guess you could use it as another way to document photos and special events. I have never done it myself, but maybe someday I will try it.

is a page of altered books to give you an idea. I aksed if anyone heredoes it but everyone wrote and agreed with me that it seems an odd hobby todo :) and apart from the creative aspect there is little point :) but someare excellent - just not my kind of thing - I scrapbook and make cards - tome there is a point in that! No, there doesn't seem to be a point to it, except for the art of it. I assume a person is just suppose to pick one of these up, look at it, then put it back down? Or are they displayed on a book stand? You're right, it does seem a tad odd. Thanks for the link. They are very beautiful, in their own way. star2fire

You know what, though......... I'm thinking this might make a great project for my students. Make a copy of a favorite page in a favorite book, highlight one paragraph, and expound on that idea artistically. hmmmmmmmmmmmm.........................

That's an interesting idea. I'm also a teacher and feel that it would be a different way for students to "tell" what a particular passage means to them.

And you can always pick up hardback books cheap at yard sales. That's a great idea for kids on a rainy day, too.
