antiquing with ink

Hi, I'm new to this group and am in need of help with antiquing my pages. Someone suggested using crystals, but I am not sure exactly what or how to use them. Sandy

I've used chalk to antique my pages.

I've never done it myself, but I was at a class at Archiver's last week and they were talking about an ink pad that you just rub over the paper. They loved it and said it was much less messy than the crystals. If you don't have an Archiver's, I would be glad to ask for you to get the details.

I've user those new ink pads and a paper towel to age a number of pages. First I dab the paper in the ink and then I rub a little ink off on a scrap piece of cardstock before using it where I want. That makes sure that I don't put too much in one spot.

By the way wecolme Sandy and I hope this helps!

Welcome to the group Sandy. I've never tried it, but I have seen people just rub an inkpad on the edge of paper. It looks really neat. M-C's way of doing it sounds much better and neater.

A great way to get an antique look is it crumple your paper , then smooth it back out.. then using a sponge, paper towel or cotton ball etc , rub ink over the paper and it will give the lines where it was crinkled a darker look than the rest leaving you with a beautiful crackled antique look Tanya

Welcome to RCS Sandy! I've never done any antiquing...yet. :-) The direct to paper technique like MC and others talked about sounds like it would look marvelous!

Hi Sandy

Welcome to RCS:>)

I love antiquing! I use walnut ink, chalk, tea an iron, what ever suits the project:>) I found that the crystals didn't always dilute thoroughly, so I usually get the premixed stuff. Hope that was a help:>)
