Back from my Hawaii vacation

I'm gone two weeks and, gee, only 1214 posts behind. Hopefully not too many of them have expired off the server.

I had a great time on the Big Island of Hawaii with my husband. We both were armed with digital cameras. We took just shy of 1900 pictures between the two of us! I haven't even seen all of them yet, but there'll have to be more than a couple of good ones. Lots of sunsets. I have quite a few layouts in mind, now to get the necessary pictures printed, and get busy!

Anyway, just wanted to say how happy to be back reading all your posts, will get around to looking at all the new layouts (already saw Tara Jeanne's) but will likely skip replying to all them to help get myself caught up quicker!

A warm hello to any new people, a warm hug to all the "regulars" for posting, extra thanks for posting your ideas and resources webpages you've run across, and I can't wait to see the rest of the new eye candy (layouts!).

I thought about you, Sheri, but since we were only on Oahu for about six hours between flights, I skipped trying to set up a meeting. Hubby and I rode the bus down to Waikiki area, walked a little, took some pictures, ate supper at Cheeseburgers in Paradise (had to try the pineaple maccademia nut coleslaw) and listened to the two sets of live music, back across the street to the beach to enjoy the night surf rolling in, a few more pictures, then taxi back to the airport. They were showing a recent movie out on the beach on a stage/screen where a live band had been performing when we first arrived. Neet idea.

Yes, all the islands are supposed to be spectacular, the Big Island is definitely "quieter and more rural" than the Honolulu area! It has 11 of the 13 climates found in the world. We saw the volocano flow last year, made it to the top of Mauna Kea up at the astronomy observatory area for a spectacular sunset this year. Visited a Kona coffee farm for a tour, went snorkeling, checked out some little towns, many beautiful beaches, lush tropical forrests, some of the tallest waterfalls my husband has ever seen, rough lava fields, lava tube openings, smooth lava fields. Graffitti by the side of the roads takes on the form of chunks of coral placed on the lava. People put names, initials, and sometimes even do elaborate outlines of animals.

I did manage to make my own lei and headpiece out of orchids and plumeria at our hotel. I felt mischievous that evening, so when Eric tried to get some good night shots, I went around putting my lei on some of the statuary and taking pictures. I thought my favorite gargoyle looked particulary sweet wearing the flowers!

Hugs and smiles, Janet

I had no idea you live right there. I only knew you were on Oahu. Jeepers. Guess I really should have said something ahead of time. Well, we should be back in Hawaii in a couple of summers...

P.S. Right before the trip I had three people over to scrapbook, and they really liked your little flowers from the punchies swap. The teenager used some on one of her layouts.

Mindi and Tammy,

I do plan on having fun with the pictures, and am setting the goal of doing the 2003 Hawaii album before any other scrapping. I want to share it here online, and with my local friends and family.

Janet, if you want some really good die cuts and other Hawaiian theme things, try

and

That second one has really nice stuff. Their laser die cut borders are awesome.

Thanks for the compliment. There is an awesome book called _Hawaiian Punch Art_ which shows how to make all kinds of three dimensional tropical flowers. I just put a beautiful helliconia on my W&W pages that I made at one of her classes. I want to learn all of the flowers so I can make a shadow box with a tropical arrangement inside.
