Back from Vacation-On Topic

Hi all

Back from Tennessee which was a spring break trip to do some hiking, visit my siter and BIL, see the Biltmore Castle, and whatever else we decided to do. Not quite sure if I am sad or not, but Dollywood opened on the day after we left.

Anyways, coming back from a wonderful hike out to a waterfall, what did my little eye spy while I was driving but a sign for a Quilt Shop. With a twinkle I suggested to Bert that we "stop by". Thus I found Holloway's Country Home in Cosby which was a run-down ramshackle old home that had been turned into a quilt store. We got a warm reception, found a few fat quarters and a yard of some wonderful print and some old buttons to "trade" at the family reunion this summer. Oh, and they gave us a program booklet for, gasp, as Quilt show in Pigeon Forge, not five miles from where we were staying. All this on a Monday.

Tuesday off to Sister's and on Wednesday when we were leaving she took us to Tennessee Quilts in Jonesboro. Two glorious floors of different, offbeat, and wild fabrics. Of course, two more yards of fabric and a pattern booklet.

Thursday to Biltmore but on Friday as it poured down rain I was dry as I perused the vendors and quilts in two locations. Took scads of pictures and between what I wanted to make and what Bert wants me to make I ended up with three patterns, three books, and two wooden boxes with inlaid patterns of quilt blocks.

Not a bad trip from many angles. So, hello to all again, I finally got through everything from last week. You've been busy as usual.

We love Holloway's too, even the Yorkie. They have a wonderful old shady porch, a meadow and a little rocking chair nook inside - everything a pup could hope for while waiting for me and it is a long wait. The staff is grand too. They fully understand the sentence, "I want to look at everything," and leave me alone until I need help. Steve, were the mountains starting to do spring or were they still having a last few weeks of winter? Silly question. I imagine it looked like spring compared to Alaska. Polly

The red buds were a bit tinged red but nothing out yet. The dogwoods were very swollen by the time we left but hadn't popped either. Bert was disappointed with that. He remembers North Carolina and the Duke campus in spring as quite beautiful. There were lots of Daffodils though so it was nice with all the bright yellow here and there.

Go ahead and laugh. When we landed in Knoxville it was snowing and was 20 degrees colder than Anchorage. We're back to normal now. Just above freezing during the day, about half that at night. We're pat you though in one thing and that is that we have 12 hours and 11 minutes of daylight already and are gaining over 5 minutes a day. On our way to almost 20 hours. That I do like.

No, Steve, no. I didn't laugh. When you said you were heading for Knoxville and I saw what their weather was like, I cringed. That area will just take your breath away but it's a little early to hope for anything except a promise of spring. So glad you had a happy trip and are home safely. Polly
