Back from Hatteras - with quilting!

Well, we arrived home at 5:30pm yesterday after a long day of driving. I hate coming home day! But we had a great week, at least weather-wise. The fishing was the worst my DH can remember! He did catch something every day, but the "big ones" were no where to be seen this week. He did see a 50" red drum being caught but not on his line, hard as he tried. His son drove up from Camp Lejeune for a 4 day holiday so that was the highlight of the trip. His daughter drove down with us so he was able to spend some quality "Dad" time with both of his children at the same time. Priceless!

After Allen left, we took a day trip to Manteo and found the quilt shop that Larisa and I could not find thanks to my map reading skills - or lack of! This town is adorable! Neat little shops tucked in around the waterfront. I was actually able to find the one Redwall volume that has been eluding me for a long time! Now my collection is complete! We had lunch at the "Weeping Radish" - authentic Bavarian food and beer - YUM. Then we topped off the day with a trip to the Aquarium which was just wonderful!

We also took a trip to Plymouth Island, off of Ocracoke Island. Only accessible by boat, it is the remnants of a once thriving community. The buildings have been maintained and it was amazing to see how folks lived in the 1800's. The Post Office also served as the General Store and there were shelves with bolts of fabrics and an old Singer sewing machine which was pretty rusty. But the collection of antique irons was amazing.

I spent the rest of the time sewing, of course. I made three pillowcases, two table runners and finished the hand sewing on the binding of a lap quilt. I also organized my sewing projects and cut fabrics for several of those. It felt good! That was the longest uninterrupted sewing time I've had in a long time.

It is good to be home on several levels - like getting back to my cable internet service. I was able to use a dial-up Earthlink service after finally getting the software installed, but it was painful to say the least. So, I was able to read the newsgroup, but found it too slow to write much. I prayed, danced, laughed and aaaahhhhhhh'ed when appropriate, but thought of you all daily. It's true what they say - "There's no place like home" even if it means going back to work tomorrow!
