DMIL's Christmas Gift

Dec 02, 2005 24 Replies

A while back Chrissy asked if any of us were planning on making X'mas gifts. At that time I did not think I was going to, but since then, I've decided to make my DMIL a wall hanging of her kitty, Mietz, who passed away earlier this year. Mietz was 13 years when she passed and suffered from Diabetes. She was a Manx breed, which meant that she was born without a tail. As you can tell from her picture, she was a very mischievous little creature and we all loved her dearly!

The colours I chose for the LO, matches my DMIL's living room colour scheme if she chooses to hang it there.

I scanned the LO before hand, but my digi stitcher is not cooperating in stitching the LO properly. Fortunately I took a photo before I wrapped it and send it off, so sorry for the bad quality. Any comments are always very much appreciated! Thanx :)

AWW....that is such a special gift! Very nice! :-)

That is lovely Judy.. actually it has given me an idea for an additional xmas pressie for DH. We had to say good-bye to our beautiful cat earlier in the year, and it was very upsetting. He was DH's cat for years before I was on the scene. Anyhow, I wanted to get his photo engraved onto a key tag, but when I went to get it done, the guy said that the picture wouldn't turn out well as Elvis was a tuxedo cat (black with a white chest). He said that dark colours do not show up on the engraving. But, you have given me an idea, I might see if I can do up a nice wall-hanging that DH can hang on the wall above his desk. I'm sure he would love it, and it would serve as a loving reminder and tribute to his long-time furry friend. Thanks for sharing...:)

luv Cec...xxx

That's what I love about this group Cec! Chrissy first planted the seed in my thoughts about making a X'mas gift and then Kate mentioned that they were thinking of giving her father a reminder of his furry friend and then Voila! An idea was born to make this wall hanging for my DMIL. And now you've also gotten some inspiration! Thanks for the kind comments :)))

Thanks Lynne :) I used satin ribbon that gives it a soft glow when light falls on it to match the brass kitty charms on top and the frame :) I'll let ya all know what she thinks. I'm a bit nervous about it :)

Thanx dear Sabrina! Is your grandbaby there yet???

Thank you Deb!! I used eyelets to string the ribbon - it was a first for me :) I kinda like it too - think I'll try it again :)

Thanks Barb! Mietz (pronounced almost like Mitch) passed in June. I did not want to give something like this too soon. Just hope she likes it :)

Thanx Kenda! The colours go with her living room (she's a bit traditional - lol) so I tried to keep a bit formal looking :)

Thanks for looking Sandy :) Bit nervous about whether she will like it! She's not the "crafty" type. But it was made with love, so... Will let you know what she says.

Thanks for looking and your kind comments Linda!
