economical photo paper and laminate?

Looking for photo paper and laminates that are very thin, under a 40# weight or 5mil (i think), for crafts that I can do with my child this summer. I've seen some of the laminated projects my DS brought home from school the end of the year and noticed they were just right for everyday crafts. My intent is to put together small scrapbook and simple family photo pages with spaced lines and laminating each of the sheets and coil binding them, so we can write on them with dry erase markers, etc.

I have a HP DeskJet 950C, a bunch of the "summer" cardstock and have have a Xyron 510 and Sizzlits Sidekick on order.... any other suggestions would be appreciated, I really hope its a worthwhile summer craft for a energetic

5yo!! I've scrapped on and off over the years but the choices and quantities available now seem overwhelming when I go into a place like Michaels!!

(just realized the Xyron 510 will probably take only its own cartridges and I'll probably use that for family gifts and cards... but would still be interested in more economical options for every day crafts.)

Target has a pak of page protectors 8 1/2 by 11 for about 5 bucks in the office section. I can't remember if you get 25 or 50. I just thought you could get a school 3 ring binder and put the protectors in there. I tried writing on them with a dry erase marker and it wiped right off. The marker I tried is a Sanford Vis-a-Vis wet erase fine point. It says overhead transparency marker.

You are the best judge of what your 5 yr old will like and this sounds like a good possibility. My 4 and 5 yr olds like things like that. My 4 yr old is fairly energetic and is just getting into it. She prefers messy crafts, which to her means something with paint. I use page protectors all the time for wipe off applications. In fact I have camping and vacation packing checklists in them and have no problems, that would probably be more economical than laminating. I have used overhead markers, white board markers and wipeoff markers and crayons.
