Embellishment Box Update (9-10-07)

Hi All,

Because I was the last one to physically hand off the box to Andrea Doran (UPSyours), I took it upon myself to travel to Huntington to see what was going on.

I went to her house, which is really in Huntington Station, and came up empty. There was no one home even though there was a couple of cars parked out front and I could hear music coming from inside.

A neighbor arrived home as I was going to my car and she said that the Doran's don't answer their door unless they are expecting people. She also called them flighty and weird. I tried calling Andrea on her cell phone and her home phone but I guess she is screening her calls because I could hear the phone ring inside and the music turn down but no one picked up.

I left and headed into town. Out of curiousity I went to the 2nd Precinct and showed them my NYPD I.D. and asked for some information regarding this. The police officer was really nice and helpful and said that it is a cyber crime as the transaction was agreed upon through the internet. He did say that he knows of the Dorans and I can honestly say it wasn't in a good way.

I went to Your Happy Place in Northport as this is a favorite haunt of Andrea's and asked if I could leave a message for her there. The owner told me Mrs Doran is no longer welcome in her store and refused to go into detail. It's a great store and I bought more stickers and some fibers--hey I had to make the trip worthwhile.

I also stopped into Michael's as Andrea seemed to know everyone by first name basis and found the manager who remembered me and Sarah. I asked if Andrea had been around (I had a photo of her and had showed it to YHP and to this manager) and he said that she doesn't come in much and unfortunately he said he doesn't want her around.

I have a feeling some of us want it just to go away but a lot of work went into this embellishment box. The website the Police Officer gave me is:

I wish I could do more but if I go out again and do find Andrea, my Irish temper might get me in trouble. I'm just upset since I'm overprotective of you guys. xoxo Kate

I really hate that this has happened. I know we all sent stuff in to help start the box, but I also know Deb had to have put ever so much in herself to really get it going. What a shame! Thanks, Kate for giving it a try. Sandy

Great investigation work Kate. Can you leave her a message on her cell phone? Or can you send a certified letter so you know that she gets it? Just a thought.

I know I heard my voice on the answering machine say "andrea or family if you are home (and I can hear you are) please come to the door I need to speak with you, this is Kate Interrante "a scrapbooking diva""

I think MC sent her a letter.

We've been doing a lot of investigative work "off site"

Thank you so much Kate for doing all the research that you did. You did not have to, but I appreciate you doing what you could.

I'm inclined to believe that a major obstacle occured to prevent Andrea from following through. Call me naive if you guys want to. :-) Between myself, Amanda, MC, and Kate, Andrea has been emailed, called (and left messages), sent a certified letter, sent Priority Shipping boxes, sent prepaid Priority postage, and attempted to been physically contacted in person. Nothing seems to work. I'm willing to let the box go and call it a loss. However, it's not my box, it belongs to RCS. I'm just the hostess. For those in the current round, I'm asking you to email me privately to let me know whether you feel I need to file a complaint with the website Kate was given. Please, email me privately and do not post a 'yes' or 'no' to the group. That way, it's private, and no one else will know your decision.

stupidity is not an excuse. Nor is laziness. Heck I've been sick and I managed to follow through on the ATC swap and have Larry post the board -- so what is her excuse? The library in town has internet access, show your identification and you get to use the computer for a half hour.

"You are not naive, just trustworthy."

andrea is a jerk and deserves whatever life is throwing her way. I've gone through too much in life to write off excuses on people. I love you guys and live by the motto "burn me one, shame on you; burn me twice, shame on me; burn me three times, duck."

I really hate to see this happen. I don't understand why someone would commit to the swap, then not follow through with it. I feel the box is probably a lost cause at this point also. It's very upsetting. I know several of you put a lot into the box to get it going and make it special. I wish I could understand some people.

A big thanks to Kate for all your investigating and to MC for the new box. Thanks to everyone who has done something regarding this as well. Deb, I wish we had better news, but it seems that we won't. I just hope the box contents went to good use and weren't just forgotten about.

I think andrea STOLE the contents as she is GREEDY. There were some wonderful things in there. I'm honestly going to say she is a f***ing a**h*** who had absolutely NO INTENTION of following through with her responsibility.

It cost, no doubt, M-C a lot of money to reinvent the holiday embellishment box so the honest people who were left on the list could participate honestly. I feel bad, however, that the newbees that have since joined us have joined at a time that we long-timers are now weary about having them join in swaps and things. I'm sure they are honest folks but we just have one sour apple to ruin it for them.

If she does contact us, I don't want to hear about her endless excuses. I can practically narrate what she will say as the excuses are endless with that twit. I had to reprint her eMails for my files and her wining was endless. I'm not perfect and I've gone through enough "pity parties" to know when to shut up but when I was sick I followed through with the ATC swap as it kept me from focusing on the unrelenting pain I was in. I also know that M-C initially wanted me to go to Huntington to find out what was going on but I wasn't cleared to drive on my own. As soon as I was able to drive the 25 miles I did and the outcome I posted above.

I'm really upset. then again my parents always called me "emotional and sensitive."

Off my soap box. Have someone who wants me to "speaka chinese." LOL

From my perspective, I do think that Andrea is a lost cause. I sent her boxes, sent her via priority signature required a prepaid priority shipping label complete with insurance. So basically, all she had to do is put the embelishment box into the priority shipping box provided, slap on the shipping label and tape it down and send it off. That she hasn't even bothered to pick up the priority envelope with the prepaid label is pretty telling.

I wish her well, none of us are perfect, but I do think that she was given every opportunity to make good and has chosen not to.

As for what I supplied, I am afraid that Amanda and Cathy will get a lot less than what was previously available, I just did not have the items on hand to make it wow for you. Hopefully, there will still be items in there of some interest. As far as I knew however, this was not the "holiday" embelishment box, so I did not make any particular effort in that direction. I just sent what I could to Deb for her to decide what was best.

With that said, I do think that we should just let the topic of Andrea die a natural death, especially since it seems to raise all our blood pressure.

I still have the contents left of the baby embellishment box. How about I sent that stuff on to Deb so she can start to fill up....again? I am willing to trade out some embellishments in the baby box before I send it as one of the drawers I lost in the roof incident was my baby supply drawer. I do still have lots of grandbaby photos to crop yet. I thought the last box was a general embellishment box, though it might have started as a holiday one. Sandy
