Geneology Help Please for a layout...

According to Wikipedia, if they share a grandparent then they are cousins. How about "Cousins of the Heart" or "Cousins by Choice"?

I'm new to this group, so I don't know your situation with Sarah, but cousin is a very broad term. I would say that if Sarah is living as your daughter, then his nieces would be her cousins. My dad's brother married a woman who had a son from a previous marriage. Her son has always been considered a cousin by all of us. My grandparents count him as a grandchild as well.

According to the relationship caculator on my Family Tree program my sister's daughter has no direct relationship with my husband's sister's daughter. I gather this is the same type of relationship you are talking about. Sandy

Sorry but Larry is right, there is no legal or blood relationship. But......there are always relationships of the heart which often are just as strong as legal or blood ties. I like Cathy's idea, Cousins by Choice would be a great title.

I agree. I do a lot of genealogy and, if I understood the relationship you described correctly, then there is no direct relationship. Perhaps you could put quotation marks around the word "cousin" to give the implied meaning that you know they're not technically cousins but you still want to use that term.

It's frustrating because in my eye they are cousins because they are related to Larry and he is married to me and Sarah is my niece just like Alyssa and Nicole are.

Oh well, Larry didn't like the title Family either so I'll change it to Friends. which means of course my journalling block has to be changed too.

It's the first layout that I've had to redo because Larry was furious with me calling them cousins. For someone who usually doesn't care now he does. go figure.

Funny if I do a family tree they are on it together via Larry's side but not cousins. I give up no wonder I gave the geneological task to my "cousin" David (who technically isn't my cousin even though he is my mom's cousin through her mom's brother's side. LOL)

Hi. I have nephews that are my kids cousins but the nephews are not cousins. They are my sisters kids and my husband's brother's kid. They are almost like family because they are of the same age and are at all of the gatherings for our family. So they are like family only not blood.

Maybe you can make the page about Nieces since you are married they are both your nieces or about the event like Playing. Diana

P.S. If you ever have kids they will be your child's cousins so "cousins meeting" will work. Man ,Genealogy is like a tongue twister.
