Help

I have a 5 year old that wants to start scrapbooking. I have never done it before in my life and have no idea what I need to get started. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know, thanks.

My 8 year old wanted to also. I got him a scrapbook kit. It comes with some paper, album, maybe a punch or two. And if you use coupons at michaels or hobby lobby you can get it for around 10:00.

You can get kiddy scrapbooking kits quite cheaply... or else go and look at the Dollar Tree for their stuff - let the 5yo choose a couple of paper packs that they like and some stickers and then you can help them make their very first pages...

Basic requirements are acid-free paper and cardstock, acid-free glue (either gluesticks or photo tabs or a glue-runner) scissors and a paper trimmer. Aside from that you can go as simple or as complicated as you like, but for a 5yo I'd keep it simple - they'll be happy with paper, glue and stickers!

My 6yr old has been scrapbooking wth me for at least a year and my 4 yr old has just recently started. So maybe I can offer an idea or two that are helpful.

Both my girls really like stickers, especially alphas since their printing is slow and "kinda crooked mom". WE started with just the basics a glue stick, paper, stickers and photos. I trimmed the photos after discussion from them with what they wanted. The 6 yr old is doing some of her own trimming now. I let the girls use scssors on the paper for embellishing the backgrounds, as they do more they get to use more of my tools. My 4 yr old really likes using stamps but it gets quite messy, the 6 year old likes to mat all her photos. The hardest thing for me was to back off and let them show their own ideas and style. I usually journal for them and long text blocks usng the words they tell me, but they do the titles or short blocks using their own printing and or stickers.

We work in short time blocks to match their attention spans. And we all have fun.

I would go with a kit. Maybe a small one to start with, say 8 x 8?
