Your Top 5 Scrapbooking Tools?

Hi Folks,

Since I'm relatively new to the scrapbooking world, coming from a professional graphic design and card-making background, I'm curious about the favorite tools everyone uses and why. I already asked for suggestions on "electronic scrapbooking" which some of you answered. I thought I'd ask the more general question: What are your Top 5 scrapbooking tools? And by "Tools", I mean any critical tool, service, software, device, or material that lets you do what you do.

I'll start by giving mine (as far as I've done so far):

  1. A high-quality, inkjet printer with a straight paper path and Postscript support
  2. A multi-size eyelet setter
  3. Die cuts (stencils) for cutting or drawing
  4. A good vector clipart collection
  5. Special scissors

Honorable mention:

--A matte cutter. I have a Alto 4501 that does everything I could imagine when trying to put beveled cuts on thicker card stock or mounting board.

--A circle cutter. I also have the Alto 360, which is a gem.

That was harder than I thought! I'm hoping that by seeing what other people feel is really critical, I'll get some good hints of other things to try. Thanks, Noah in California

Hi Noah,

I am fairly new to scrapbooking but was making cards before so had some dual purpose tools. My fav things are probably similar to many other peeps :o)

  1. Trim Cat & Roll Cat Cutters { is this one or two...LOL? I also have two size Firskars cutters and one other...all used for different situations :o)}
  2. Epson Sylus Photo RX500
  3. Large and small scissors
  4. Eyelets Tool Kit
  5. Decorating Chalks

  1. Fiskars 12" cutter. I just bought a new one because they are now printing the measurements on a lighter background so they can be read easier.
  2. Xyron. I have the 5" and the little X.
  3. Creative Memories cutting system. I FINALLY bought this last year. LOVE IT!!! I have the circles and ovals and just ordered the long one that you can do the edge of a page or make a border (sorry, I'm not a dealer and don't remember the name of it).
  4. Creative Memories tape runner. Have tried several brands and prefer this one.
  5. Not sure if this counts as a tool, but I love my Creative Memories "fast formula" books and the notebook thingy with the pages that you buy separately. I think it's called "page patterns" or something like that. They have great ideas for getting albums done.

Oh yes I can't believe I forgot Glue Dots. I just ran out of them and I can't scrap without them.

Do you find them addicting? I think sometimes there might be a cheaper way to stick some things down, but the glue dots work so well I'll just use them. My latest was the Love page. I had a piece of very textured background paper and nothing would really stick to it with the tape runner. So, out came the glue dots.

I do find the glue dots addicting. They work great to stick bulky things like ribbon, fibers, tags, pockets just about anything the regular tape runner doesn't hold down. My favorite are the mini ones but I will use any size. It's raining in San Diego today but I'm going to go out and get some today. Another thing I'm addicted to and these have been around for a while but almost every layout of mine includes one are those round office tag thingies. They have them in the scrapbooking sections now with sticky stuff on the back so all I have to do it stick it on the layout now. I love to use these for titles, dates and just about every thing. Do you know what tags I'm talking about? They are the round white tags with silver metal around them. I just don't get tired of them. Really cute with a piece of ribbon tied through it.

Hi Noah and welcome to rcs! This is a great thread. Thanks for starting it.

1: my Cutterpede paper trimmer (Simply the best, for the work I do anyway.) 2: my reverse tweezers (I use these every time I put a page together. They're great for holding my mattes while I get them straight, or for tiny pieces when I'm paper piecing.) 3: my lil' chizzler (It's great for placing stickers and getting them back up if they're not just right.) 4: Is UnDo a tool? lol It sure comes in handy sometimes! 5: ????

You're right, it is hard to come up w/ five. I do absolutely no computer scrapping, not even fonts, so all my tools are hands on.
