Another "top 5"

I've seen this subject touched on, but don't think I've seen an actual "top

5". I've recently re-done my scraproom and it got me to thinking what other stuff y'all use for storage. I KNOW we all want one of Dave's paper holders, but what is everybody using now?

My personal top 5:

  1. The "cubes" for 12x12 paper. I got these from Target on clearance for .98 each (bought 3). After making the cubes like the directions show, Use the pieces from the extra sets to make shelves. I hold them with cable ties. It's a lot more sturdy than I thought it would be and it holds TONS of paper.
  2. A "watch tin" thingy for storing eyelets. LOVE IT! For those who don't know, it is a box that has little round holders with clear lids. I have 2 of these to hold different colors and shapes of eyelets.
  3. A "button rack" that I got from Stampin' Up. They sell their buttons in round containers and they sell a holder that these just slide into. The containers are clear so I can see what color I am looking for.
  4. PSB Sticker Binder. LOVE IT! I can buy whichever pages I need for what size sticker sheets I have.
  5. Pampered Chef spinning thingy for kitchen stuff (I'm pretty sure that's not the REAL name! LOL). I use this for pens, scissors, exacto knife, etc.

I'm currently trying to find a way to store diecuts and would love any ideas. DH says I shouldn't have enough to need storage and should only buy them as I scrap them. Proof positive that they are from a different planet.

Cecelia, I bought a little plastic drawer system from Hobby Lobby - it has 5 drawers and each drawer is 5x7. I have three sets and they fit nicely in the bookshelf beside my work table. I know I didn't pay more than $5-6 for it and they have them on sale all the time. I use them for my diecuts - sorted by theme and season with a sticker on the front of each drawer.

My top five storage solutions:

  1. Large Stanley tool box from Lowe's - it has a telescoping handle and two tool boxes that fit together. the bottom one holds my sixxiz and dies when I help with the all-day crop. The drop in tool caddy in the bottom section holds most of my punches and bead supplies. The top box holds all of my other tools that I use a lot - It sits within reach of my table at all times.
  2. Highsmith 12x12 storage boxes - holds my completed pages, works in progress, etc. I now have 10 of them in use. Plus two Highsmith drawer units with 4 12x12 drawers each. Holds much of my papers (not all).
  3. Two dowel rods - one above the work table and one above the bookshelf to hold spools of ribbon
  4. Fishing tackle box from Wal-mart - has four compartments that slide into a sturdy case with a handle that can also hang on the wall like a shelf - Each of the compartments is 8.5x13 and has dividers to make the internal compartments the size you want from 2x2 up.
  5. Crop In Style Navigator LE - holds more paper, markers and rest of the little tools (in pockets) and my healing mats and coluzzle items. Sandy

I've found that my favorite storage for my ribbons is my antique ball and atlas canning jars... they are pretty to look at and I can just glance and see what is inside.. I have them sorted by colors...

I have vertical storage for my paper and stickers, and iris carts for everything else, eyelets and brads are in watchmakers tins and my inkpads are all in smaller plastic drawer units gotten at big lots (i think I paid like 4 bux for them, its been so long I don't remember). I unmounted my stamps and they are all in cd cases in a drawer in an iris cart (saved a ton of space). I have a few cheapie tackle cases from walmart that holds my embellishments and one from joanns I won in a contest that rocks... has all my metal stuff in there.

Great topic Cecelia. I've been working on my scrap room now for the last couple of weeks. I need to put pictures on my webshots, but haven't gotten that far yet.

As for the sizzix storage I don't have one, but could use one. So I hope someone has some really great ideas on that great. but I've been thinking of an idea. My room isn't all the way done. It's in the basement and only has drywall on two walls and cement on the others. Sorry about getting off tract just getting to my idea. Well, we built out house and had an extra medicine cabinet. It's one of those wider ones for a bigger sink base. Well, my husband asked if I could use it in my room. I thought he was crazy but now I'm wondering if my sizzix would fit laying down. I might have to try that out. Then make him hang it. It would even give the room a mirror if I used it.

Ok, now for my favorite stuff.

  1. I just got a counter top to work at and love it. It's at stand up working height and I bought some 6 draw tall high rubber maid container drawers to put under that.

  1. 6 drawer rubber containers. I found some at office max that is actually

12x12 on the inside. I put pictures. One draw for each kid. Then I can put in my album refills and page protectors in.

  1. Wire paper rack. Holds my 12x12 papers.

  2. TV. I work better when I can have something to listen to while I'm in the basement.

  1. Altoids round tin or any candy holder like the I want Gum! plastic little boxes are great for eyelets, buttons, snaps and brads.

  1. PSB binder for stickers

  2. CM photo box for pictures.

  1. Crop in style for cutting mats mags and everything I need for a crop.

5.CM pen holder for pens and markers.

I store my diecuts in the PSB binder with the 4 square plastics from CM. If I had a lot I think I would use the small plastic bins with like 3or 4 drawers and label each for seasons or whatever the diecuts were for.

I don't like to keep to many things on hand because I find I get tired of them and end up not using them. So I shop as I need stuff for layouts I have in mind. That is just me. Like right now my PSB binder is stuffed with lots of things I know I won't use.

Oh boy another list! Here is my top 5 for storage stuff:

  1. Cropper Hopper paper holders. I have 6 for my 12X12. I purchased similar magazine holders for my 8 1/2X11 sheets from The Container Store online.
  2. 3. and 4. Cropper Hopper embellishment organizers with the small embellishment boxes for my eyelets, beads, brads, and buttons. I also get the fiber cards and store my fibers in there neatly.
  3. Cropper Hopper 4X6 photo holders. I use these to hold photos and the accessories in some sets I have. No I don't work for Cropper Hopper, I just like this stuff. My MIL bought a bunch of it from QVC and I went ahead and bought more--talk about your enablers!
  4. I have 3" binders and page protectors for my stickers and die cuts. I am sure they do not hold as well as Scrap racks but they work. Jacqui

This may sound weird but I bought two of those tall mechanics tool boxes to hold most of my stuff. They have big wheels so I can pull them close to me while I'm working and then push them back in the closet when I'm done. My husband mounted a power strip with a retractable cord on one side of each box so I always have electricity close by no matter where I chose to scrap. The drawers are great for tools and those watchmaker tins and I store paper and cardstock in craftkeeper envelopes that I put in a box in the bottom of one. The other large bottom storage space I keep my xyrons and sizzix.

My favorite storage items I got tired of dumping the clear round containers that eyelets come in, so I bought a flat plastic nuts and bolts organizer(it is similiar to an embroidery thread organizer but more spaces in it ) in the hardware section at Walmart. cost me $3.00, and it has 36 compartments. Just right! I have one for eyelets and snaps and one for embellishments. Love my sticker album! I have a wire mesh paper holder, and two others my dad made for me out of wood. I also use those white 3 plastic drawers that hold 8.5 X 11 paper. amd for my misc tags, and bulky embellishments, fibers, punches. they are only around $5-$6 at Walmart. I bought a smaller version, too, just right for my most used tools, and small enough to take to crops! Around $5.00 Linda C

Hi Jacqui!

A Wendy House is a wooden house that people over here use for a lot of stuff. I don't want to say it's like a shed, because it's a lot more sturdy and air tight than that. You can use it for a range of stuff, and it also ranges a lot in size, from "dolls-house" size right through to a propper live-in house. Some people even built there Beach houses from Wendy Houses.

In any event, we are at this moment waiting for the delivery and set-up people to arrive. I'm going to use mine for....wait for it....a scrap room! Yay! No more packing away and occupying the dinning room table for the whole weekend! I'll take pictures and post it on my webshots account later :)

Hi Judy,

I was only teasing Sabrina....LOL I figured that your *Wendy House* would be something similar to what we would call a summer house in the UK. Wendy Houses here are for kiddos playing in the garden, like the one on the link I sent through. I guess that in SA they have hit on a name that attracts good business...LOL Still can't get the picture of you out of my mind....Judy sitting there in the tiny version, paper, glue and stickers flying everywhere...and Tinkerbelle up on the window ledge just willing you to FLY!!!!!! LOL! Well, it's not that far a stretch! I do think of my tools as my toys and of scrapping as playing! ;)

- Acrylic trays that you can stack up,

- Cropper hopper rolling cart,

- Scrap rack,

- 2 different kinds of plastic containers I bought from QVC

Wow that sounds way neat! How big is yours??? I can't wait to see the pictures! Does it come finished on the inside or do you have to do that? And since it is hot in SA, what are you planning on doing for heat and air? Can you tell I love construction...

M-C, we don't have a very huge garden, so unfortunately I could not go with a really big one. Mine is 4 square metres, which according to a metric converter I've found relates to about 43.056 sq feet I hope I did the conversion right. :) It's comfortable enough for me to work in and then just close the door when I'm finished, not having to pack everything away and that was the main idea.

At the moment it's just an empty shell. I did have some insulation installed with it, so that will take care of most of the heat, (it is extremely hot here this summer - today 35C, I think that's about 95f) but apart from that, I had it placed under one of my garden trees, which will keep it shaded for most of the day. DH has primed the inside today, and tommorrow when it's well dried, he will give it a light yellow lick of paint which I bought this morning. Next weekend he will set up my counter top and shelving aswell as electricity and then the real fun can begin :))

This is why this thread has come just at the right time. Now I have a lot of great ideas for storage! Thanks everyone
