Looking for "Electronic" Scrapbooking Recommendations

Hi Folks,

What types of software are you using that specifically help with scrapbooking? Is there software specifically dedicated for scrapbooking? I would LOVE to have something where I could design my pages visually, kinda like those landscape/home design products you can get, then be able to print out the parts (like borders, text, clipart, etc) that I need to put together to reproduce the actual page.

While I'm asking questions, what are everyone's favorite clipart/template resources? I prefer vector software because I can scale it without loss of resolution, and they usually come with transparent backgrounds. I'll share one: for my Xmas cards I found a good vector (EPS) clipart site at

The software I'm using now is basically the entire Adobe design line, including Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign

But I'd REALLY love some software devoted to building scrapbook pages, including "electronic placeholders" for all the special things scrappers can do (i.e. eyelets, metal tags, etc). I saw an almost identical post in this group from several years ago, but the replies were a little slim, and software changes so quickly I wanted to see what people are using today. I'm particularly intrigued by the idea of "electronic scrapbooking", because I can use many of the software programs I'm already familiar with and I have access to very high-end printers.

Thanks, Noah

I do very little with my PC and scrapbooking, except for typing out journaling, etc. I know we do have some digital scrappers here, though. Hopefully they'll be able to help you out more!

InDesign? You have my sympathies. We're transitioning to that at work & so far, I hate it.

Welcome, Noah! Us digital scrappers are in the minority here (tho welcome).

I use Adobe as well (Photoshop & PageMaker, in my case).

I've seen various programs advertised, but have never tried any.

Nice to "see" another digital scrapper around here!

Welcome Noah,

I use Microsoft Picture It 7.0 to edit my photos and I love it and it can't be any easier.

I also use Hallmark's Scrapbooking Studio for my digital Layouts.

HOpe it helps, Kate

I use PaintShopPro9.0 and MS Publisher primarily...but a friend brought me a copy of "Scrapbook Factory Deluxe" which is kinda cute and has some neat elements.

Ah, that's what I'm interested in....a program tailored to the needs of scrappers. Do you know if the Hallmark product supports EPS clipart with transparencies? I'll also have to check out the "Scrapbook Factory Deluxe" that Mommy Razz mentioned below.

Thanks for all the warm welcomes!

I too will look at Hallmark's Scrapbooking Studio and Scrapbook Factory Deluxe. Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I realize these probably aren't the most high-end products, but if they can help do some specific things that scrappers need, maybe they'll be a little easier to use for certain things than a professional layout program like InDesign.

Yes, InDesign has its quirks, like any super-complicated product. But it's more powerful than PageMaker and has nice congruence between other Adobe products that I've used since Day 1. Since the rumor is that Adobe is going to dump PageMaker altogether in favor of InDesign, we'll have to just grin and bear it.

Thanks, Noah

Hi Noah,

I know that Hallmark's Scrapbooking Studio isn't high end (it runs about 19-25 dollars)and I can't afford high end. I have used photoshop and Pagemaker in the past but sometimes I just want to use something simple and elegant and that I can adapt and change at will.

If a paperdoll comes on a layout already presented I can change the hair or clothing to suit my needs. Or plain delete it.

The program does transparencies all on its own.

Hi Noah,

Just wanted to welcome you to the group. I don't scrap electronically so have no recommendations on software...... although I do use my PC for lettering, the odd background and for photo-repair/manipulation. I know others use lots for so may be of greater advantage to you....I am more of a hands on type of person, card, paper, adhesive and scissors :o)

Hi Noah!

I have the feeling I know what you are looking for. There are several digital scrapbookers out there that have put together amazing kits for scrapbooking digitally including all kinds of background papers, borders and embellishments. You can fin a lot of information at a website exclusively for digital scrapbooking called

You can subscribe to their newsletter which arrives electronically once a month and offers tons of downloadable products, fonts and artwork, very inexpensive too.

I am not a digital scrapbooker but I am always marvelled at their stuff. My favorite digital scrapbooker is Rhonna Farrer and she has her own line of digital products, also offered at scrapbook-bytes.

I am not a spoke-person for scrapbook bytes and have never even purchased any of their products, but I receive their newsletter and love to visit their website for inspiration in my craft.

Hope this helps! Luka

Noah, one day sheerly by accident, I came across a CD sale at our local newsagency. I was just browsing around and only starting out on scrapping. I found a CD called American Greetings Crafts 7. I have used it ever since for all my journaling. You can make text boxes easily to precisely the size you need it and spare yourself a lot of hassle in playing the size guessing game. Also it has tons of clipart and other craft ideas, like greeting cards etc, but also have a specific section for scrapbooking. I used this programme to create a Calender, incorporating photos with borders and clipart as a present to my DS this year.

Luka, GREAT suggestion. Thanks.

I should point out that I'm not an electronic scapbook purist (i.e. someone who designs a scrapbook page entirely digitally, then prints out a complete page) by any stretch. But since I come from the electronic design world, I do rely heavily on software to create some background patterns, borders, and most images and text. My scrapbooks always end up being a combination of digital media and traditional media. I should also post a URL to what are the best-looking "pure" electronic scrapbook pages I have ever seen, from someone's site I checked out a while back based on another thread here:

Now if I could only get my real scrapbook pages to look that good, I could probably quit my graphic design job!
