Looking for ideas

First of all, I'm new to the group. I'm a male (any others on here, or am I the only one?). I'm somewhat of a graphic designer, thus the reason I love scrapbooking which I've done for years.

I'm putting together a history of how my wife and I met. I want to do it in chapters - storybook or silent films type. For example: Chapter 1: They Meet, Chapter 2: The First Date...etc. And I want these to be full 12x12 pages. I don't know if I want them all to be the same or different and how to design it.

Any ideas? Thanks

Hi and welcome to the group. You are not the only male here, we have Dave who posts regularly and Matt that posts once in a while and I am sure that we have more that lurk.

I love the idea of the silent film type but I would never be able to make them all the same. I'd keep the feeling going but I'd just have to make each different. I hope that as you complete your layouts, you'll share with us. We love looking at other people's work. It truly inspires us!

Welcome to the group! You are not the only guy on here, just be warned, you may be tapped for projects! Your history idea sounds wonderful. Sorry to say I don't have any ideas for you, sounds as if you have the hard part done, coming up with the idea.

Welcome to the group. I like your silent film idea. Maybe you could do each chapter as a different movie, but have at least one color throughout the pages that would tie them all together. Or maybe the page titles could all be done in the same style. Good luck and please share it with us.

Hi and Welcome. My thoughts are first off how soon do you want to get this done? If quickly you might think of doing the pages similar. I find when I'm getting a whole album done quickly it helps to use the same paper and stickers and sort of have a format for the page. Then each page is similar, yet you can change up the paper and stickers to give each page a tad different look. Plus any photos and journaling you do will make the pages look different too.

Welcome. And congrats on delurking. I'm sure Dave and Matt won't mind the male company in here. And we all love hearing the male perspective on things. Your silent film idea sounds really great. I share a graphic design background with you. When I think of silent films I picture more black and white. If that's the case you could do some photo tinting for special effects in some of your photos maybe. Or do a monochromatic scheme, that's simple and quick if you're short on time. Some of the gals in here have done some awesome black and white ideas in past challenges in here. Maybe they can give you some links for ideas. If you have anything currently created, I'm sure we'd all love to see your scrapping style. Feel free to post and share. Knowing a persons style sometime helps to broaden the suggestions or ideas.

Welcome to RCS! You're not the only guy around here, and I know the guys will be glad to have the company. :-) Your idea of a silent film sounds like a great idea. I couldn't do them all the same because I would get bored and never finish. But, you could easily keep a theme throughout the album or maybe a certain color throughout. Hope you get a chance to share what you've done! We love seeing other layouts.

I thought of Pac Man . That is not so romantic, I know but that is the way it is presented on the game. Seriously, There are so many wonderful papers out there and embellishments.just visit your local scrapbook store (LSS) and go wild Happy to ahve you with us. This is a most creative group!

Thanks for all of the welcomes and responses. Let me clarify a little more:

I'm going to use the same color scheme (yes color, I'm a BIG full color fan) throughout the book basically. Each page will have a different layout. I probably won't finish it until January because as I continue to plan, I'll buy more embelishments and so forth (so it's an after Christmas thing - I'm just in the planning stages now). What I'm unsure of is how exactly to design the Chapter 1,2,etc. pages. Should they all be the same design or different? The same color scheme as the other pages or black and white? Any ideas on this?

BTW, I appreciate the friendliness of this NG. It's so nice to post a question without getting flamed...

This is a very friendly group. Every now and then a flamer will come in and for the most part we ignore them and they go away.

I did 2 ABC books for friends kids this year. My intent was for the pages to serve as chapter pages. For one book each page was set up basically the same with the colors changing. The 2nd book I did I alternated with 2 different LO's for the chapter pages. Both looked really good. So, I know this doesn't help much. I don't think there has to be a set way to do it. What you have planned sounds wonderful. Maybe do the chapter pages in the black and white silent film idea and then it will open up to your wonderful colored LO's. Kind of like with the film the Wizard of Oz goes from black and white to color. The effect is stunning.

I would make each chapter page a similar layout using a different color theme. That way you have both consistancy and color. You can follow through by using that color theme for the chapter. Hopefully that makes sense.

Hi Evader and Welcome! I think it's a great idea! I would keep the Chapter pages in the same style so that the album have better flow. The colours could change, but say for example you decide on earthy tones, jewel colours or metalic colours, the chapter pages should stay in that spectrum. I hope I make sense :). Also I would use the same font / lettering through out, but maybe also vary the colours, depending on your backgroud paper. Have fun! :))

Hi and welcome to rcs! My suggestion for your chapter pages is to keep them alike. You should find a nice old fashioned romantic font to use for your titles. In keeping w/ the old movies theme, which I really like by the way, I'd at least have the chapter pages in black and white or shades of grey. Your wife is going to love this. Have fun putting it all together!
