Welcome, Anne! What kinds of info are you looking to include in your album?

I'm a digital scrapper & have done several family history albums. You can check out sampels at

if you're interested. In album #9 I used a family story format, adding what photos I could to transcripts of various older family members talking about the family history. I used a different font for each person, to give them a different "voice". Looking forward to hearing more about your heritage album.

Wow Susanne, your album looks wonderful! I saw some things that I'm going to have to remember and scraplift, if you don't mind. The way you cut around the focal people in the boat on the "spreewald" page is a really neat idea. Did you use the orignal black & white photos, or did you make copies?

Welcome to RCS Anne! I wish I had some advice for you, but I have yet to make a heritage album. It's on my albums to do one of these days. My Mom has a ton of old black & white, and even some sepia, family photos. One thing I do plan on doing is including stories that my Mom knows about the people in the photos. To me, it just makes the people that much more real to me, and not so much just some ancestor in a photo.

Hi!

Thank you everybody for responding to my request! The pages were particularly helpful. I am new at the computer and learning how everything works. Right now I need my husband or son to help me with this so if I'm slow to respond please forgive me.

I'm 73 years old and have a lot of time to cover :-) But not much time left to do it. It's so wonderful to find this newsgroup and meet new people. I've been retired for several years and scrapbooking has become a lot of fun for me.

Up until now I have been gathering resources. My husband and I have taken trips to places where we know our relatives came from. We obtained birth, marraige, and death certificates. I signed up for ancestery.com which is a fanastic resource. It's cheaper than flying to Boston :-) When I was in Evertt Mass. I got a copy of my fathers birth certificate and my husband and I found the house where he grew up.

I'm in the process of putting together a heritage album with all the information I'm collecting. I look forward to putting together the album and hearing your suggestions and tips. I also look forward to seeing what other people have done.

Thanks Deb! It was a lot of fun doing the research and later the pages. Feel free to scraplift! I got the idea for the Spreewald layout from one of my idea books. Can't remember right now which one it was... I'm not sure if I used the original photos but I think one is a copy and the other one is the original. The photos of the layouts are not so good. I'm allready working on scans but scanning and stitching takes quite awhile. I put a sheet of vellum on top of the photo and cut out a peolpe shaped hole from the vellum. Then glued the vellum to the frame and the frame to the background. Cutting the hole was a little difficult but in the end it turned out OK.

Anne, I'm into genealogy in a large way. I belong to several genealogy societies as well as have a lot on online subscriptions. A few years back I discovered scrapbooking. It really goes hand in hand with genealogy. Be warned though genealogy is very addicting!

I'm frantically scrapping 2005 averaging 4 LOs a day. I've just started incorporating more digital into my scrapbooking and yesterday did a 2 pg LO that was digital thanks to the help I got here. Once I get 2005 finished I can then start into some of the older pictures. My goal is to stay current as well as work on the past so I'll be happy if I can complete a couple of albums a year.

A hug to you too Anne

Hi Scrappin Away!

Thanks for your encouragement. It's nice to meet another person into genealogy and scrapbooking! I've reached one particular point that seems to be without an answer. The situation is we've traced relatives back to 1845. We're pretty sure the place is in French Canada. Is there anybody out there who knows how to get this information even if it's in French? Is there a good genealogy newsgroup I can go to? I also wanted to share that I have 3 very old sears roebuck catalogs that is very useful to help date items I see in old pictures.

One of the ways that I deal with the old pictures that are all B&W, I add color to the pages on the card stock that I use. I could have my son digitize it and you could give me your opinion. Do you recommend a web site for posting pictures? I used a floral print that reminded me of the drapes she used to have in her parlor.

Hi Anne.. and welcome. OK folks, dont faint cause I am finally posting again.. LOL...Anne needs a question answered.. I will try to help. If you can check out a local Latter Day Saints Library, they should have information ..... also, in Montreal is the French Genealogical Society. I live in Florida now, but I was living in CT and if you are close to there, there is a branch there too.My ancestry is French also. Good luck... and you can email me privately if you wish.
