Hi Everyone,

Got a strange situation, it may make me sound totally computer illiterate but its got me all confused over here, and let me tell you its not hard to do....LOL Anyway I was bored and messing around with the newsgroup, clicking buttons and exploring (like I had mentioned earlier I am NEW to this newsgroup thing!!!) and next to the name of this newsgroup earlier before I started playing with all the buttons in parenthesis it had a number like

2914 now it has gone down to 406 what did I do???? LOL anyone else get in trouble for playing with the buttons? lol Any suggestions will put my mind at ease on what it is I did to this thing, I wouldnt want to miss any posts, since I am now addicted finding myself checking every hour or so!!! LOL Thank you

you are downloading the Headers....that is why the numbers are going down... you can set the amount of Headers you want downloaded each time by going to Tools>Options>

goto Tools>Options>

and check the box that says.... "Mark all messages as read when exiting a newsgroup" and all the numbers will be 0 when you come back to the group:)

OK my turn to make you all look smart... which tab is the "Mark all messages as read when exiting a newsgroup" on. I could find tools>options, but couldn't find the above checkbox.

I am using Outlook Express6... and it is under Tools>Options>Read tab....... then look under the "News" section of that tab.... 2 checkboxes...

  1. sets the amount of Headers to download at one given time....(I have mine set for 1,000)
  2. Marks all messages as read when exiting newsgroup.....

Ahhhh found it. Thanks for holding my hand Jan.
