I made my first scrapbooking friend!

I am so excited! I made my first scrapbooking friend!

It is my best friend from high school. I have grown up in the Czech Republic but left when I was 16 and we kept in touch since then. I am staying in the Czech Republic all summer and I showed my friend my layouts a few weeks ago and gave her some magazines. She just loved them, and then we have not talked for about a week. Next time we saw each other, she had a whole stash of scrapbook supplies!!!

Scrapbooking is virtually non-existent here, there is even no Czech word for scrapbooking (so I made one up!). My friend, in fact, found the ONLY Czech supplier of scrapbook products with a very limited and expensive range. (I wonder if she bought almost everything in the shop...?)

We are getting together for our first mini-crop tomorrow evening. I think we will probably just admire each other's stash and try to figure out how to use Xyron 510. When we pool our resources together, between us we have quite a decent amount of stash and tools...

How fun Klara. It is always nice to have someone to scrap with. I always get lots of ideas from my scrapping friends. I have a group that I meet with once a month or so for a crop and my DD and I scrap together too.

I read in a magazine the other day about a group of three friends who all live in different cities. They each have web cams and scrap together over the internet. Sounded like an interesting idea.

Yes, it is possible to "cyber-scrap" like this, I suppose. You can use skype and have more than two people on the call.

Hello Kate,

My sister also cross stitches (after I introduced her to it about a year ago). She used to think that she was completely un-talented when it comes to creative activities but she loves to cross stitch now. She also keeps on dropping "hints" like: "If you had some materials which you really didn't want to use (and wouldn't mind going to waste) and if you showed me more of those page sketches and if you told me what goes together - do you think I would possibly be able to make a little page by myself?"

I gues there is always hope in coverting others to scrapbooking!

Hello,

I got together with my first scrapbooking friend yesterday... and we ended up spending a lot of time planning pages, looking through magazines, discussing techniques, trying out things, showing each other ideas of what we could do... (though we did not actually produce any pages...) And the kids were very happy playing and creating with paper punches. We also played with her Xyron 510 and now I want one too!

We went to an artificial flower and haberdashery shops on the town's square. We came back with a lot of things: patterned and plain ribbons, embroidery threads, buttons and charms of all kinds, silk flower buquets (which we took apart - and now we have LOTS of silk flowers). It is amazing that one can get a lot of useful items without buying special scrapbooking stuff!

We are planning to get together for a whole day of scrapping soon...

Klara -

If you use digital photos that can be re-printed, and so don't care so much about making sure supplies are acid and lignin-free, etcetera - you can find lots of things that you can use at discount stores, hardware stores, all kinds of places. A friend of mine in Europe, who couldn't get much for supplies, and who couldn't afford them even if she could find them, used to use inexpensive cream and powder eyeshadows and other cosmetics for color and distressing on layouts. She would save wrapping paper from gifts, shopping bags, fabric from old clothing. A lot of things become possible if you don't have to worry about archiving orginal photos.
