Hello I am new & looking for shopping advice

Hello everyone,

My name is Klara, I am in my thirties and I live in London. I have started scrapbooking a few months back, I absolutely love it, but I work very slowly due to physical disability - have only done only about 14 layouts so far. (I will post my layouts and cards on the internet soon...so any comments will be welcome then).

My husband is stopping over in LA for two days in May and he would love to go scrapbook supply shopping for me. I realise LA is a large area, and my husband is not sure yet where he will stay, but he has offered to go to as many shops for me as he can.

I understand scrapbooking is huge in the US, with a lot of dedicated shops and with a much greater selection of goods available than in the UK, so I have to brief my husband very well to make sure he brings back stuff I like!!! Could anyone please tell me which are good shops (Michael's, Jo-Ann's, stamp shops, others?), if/where it is possible to get discount/money off coupons, which are good value packs to buy etc...

Any advice will be much appreciated. Thank you very much.

I love in Northern California, we don't have any dedicated shops. As for LA I would be surprised if they didn't. But, I don't know.

I do however, recommend eBay. I have just started scrapbooking myself and have gotten some really good deals on eBay. You need to know what stuff sells for in a store before you buy or bid on something. It is possible to pay too much if you don't. But, it is also a good way to get large lots of buttons, ribbons, paper, etc.

Welcome to RCS Klara! One of our RCSers was in London just a few weeks ago. I live in Arkansas, so I can't help you with LA shops. But we do have some RCSers in California. Hopefully somebody will be able to help you out. JoAnn's, Michaels, and Hobby Lobby carry scrapbook supplies, so if nothing else, your hubby might check them out.

Klara - First welcome to scrapbooking and welcome to RCS.

I can't help with Local Scrapboking Stores (LSS), but here are some major chains...

I looked up Michael's in LA. The website

shows there are 8 stores.

Jo-Ann's has 10

Jo-ann's website will allow you to download coupons.

WalMart is also in LA

They have supplies in their craft section.

Target

has three.

Don't forget to send a list!

Let us know what he brings back for you.

Try this link It shows the scrap book places in Los Angeles. I tried listings for rubber stamps and crafts in general. A search on "Scrap Book" seemed to get the most hits. I can't tell you which is good or not as I live in St, Louis, Missouri. If there is something you can't get in London, I may be able to find it here and ship it over. Then maybe you could get me some of the things I see in the English magazines that I can't find here.

Here are two scrapbooking stores I go to. Both are in the city of Torrance, which is south of LAX...and Strictly Scrapbooking also has a location in Cerritos.

Scrampers is quite large and has two floors. The second floor is dedicated to paper (lots!), stickers, and embellishments.

I know there are other stores in the area because I've driven past them, but never gone in.

Michaels and Joann's in Torrance have a nice selection of scrapbook supplies.

What city will your husband be in? If it's in the general area where I live, I might be able to ask some people.

Thanks, Angie! I'm in the L.A. area & hadn't heard of either of those. Bookmarked them & will have to head to Torrance some weekend to check them out.

I'm a digital scrapper, Klara, so haven't made an effort to check out scrapbook stores in L.A. Sorry I can't help you. Here's wishing your husband a great trip, & may he find you lots of neat things for your future scrapbooking projects.

Hello Angie,

Thank you for your very helpful reply. In fact, my husband has been considering booking a hotel in Torrance as it seems to be quite convenient to LAX and there seems to be a cluster of shops he can go to for me. So Torrance it is and now he just needs to decide which hotel in the area to choose! He will be there at the end of May so I have a lot of time to write my "wish list"...

Thank you, Klara

Hello Robert, I also find eBay (UK) quite good if I remain sensible with my bidding... Once I got a complete bargain - a large pizza box stuffed with scrapbooking supplies, including a lot of paper, for GBP8.00 (about US$14, I think). Sometimes eBay is the only place I can get certain things not available elsewhere!

Thank you, Amy. The area my husband will stay, has all of those stores. It looks like it will be a very day for my husband... Klara

Hi, thank for the info.

Thank you for the kind offer to ship stuff to me in London. My husband will be in the US in May so maybe we can organise something before than, my hubby can then post it from LA.

What English magazines do you like reading? I regularly get the Scrapbook Inspirations and The Creative Scrapbooking Magazine, I find them a good source of inspirations and new things to try out.

Oops. I think I accidentally posted a blank message. Sorry. :-/

I think you'll find Scrampers worth the trip. It's on Sepulveda, at the corner of Hawthorne and Sepulveda, across from the Del Amo Mall. I had some time to kill between appointments on Saturday and browsed. (I hate shopping, but I love wandering around scrapbooking and craft stores!) They have a nice selection of stamps (and stamping accessories), paper punches, albums, Jolies (the

3-dimensional kind), lots & lots of papers & stickers, and all sorts of embellishments. They have papers I've never seen anywhere else or in catalogs or kits.

Strictly Scrapbooking is on Pacific Coast Highway at Crenshaw and PCH. There's bank on the corner (the other corners have a health club, a Walgreens, and a Jack in the box).

There's also Scrappin' Blues in Manhattan Beach

I was there once a few years ago. I remember it was kind of small, but crammed with things.

Hi Klara. Welcome to the group. Sounds like you have some good scrapbook store advise from Angie. I live in the Pasadena area and work at a scrapbook store near here. I'm sure your husband will find lots of great things for you.
