New to Scrapbooking

Hello everyone! My name is Erin and I'm new to scrapbooking and really want to get into. It's gotten so big and seems like fun to do so I'm a beginner and I was wondering if any of you knew what great chain Arts & Crafts stores you'd recommend to pick up some beginner supplies? Thanks for your help and looking forward to getting lots of great advice and tips! :)

Hi Erin, where are you?

Two national chains that have great sales are Michaels & Joanns. I'm so thrilled you found what we all know to be a wonderful hobby.

Welcome Erin! Scrapbooking is very addicting. Sometimes in the Sunday papers Michaels has a 40% off one non-sale item. I usually use the coupons to purchase magazines.

Hi Erin and welcome to RCS!!! Where do you live? You are right, scrapbooking is a great hobby that is both fun and rewarding! As for craft stores, Michael's and Hobby Lobby are always a good place to start and for scrapbooking classes your local scrapbook store will have beginners classes! On our RCS website, the addy is in my signature, under stores and local scrapbook stores (LSS), you will find a listing of some of the stores. I would suggest however, that you call before you go. It's really hard to keep the list updated as LSSs open, close and move all the time.

Hope we get to see some of your work as you get layouts done!

I can't remember if anyone mentioning Walmart. It's not the best supplier in the world, but starting out and/or a budget shopper, it's great! I buy my photo splits there, well I did when I was stateside and i've not ventured to the German version of Wally World although I've been told it's not like ours at home. The Yorktown VA Walmart started getting some 12x12 papers in when we were leaving in the spring.

This is a great resource for information and ideas. I've not been around for a long time and finally figured out how to ifnd it, albeit thru google, this morning.

Good to see you back. I just looked at your webshots account. Love the watercolor cards with Ranger inks. I want to pick some of the inks up to try. Someone showed me a journal they had covered with foil tape and then used the inks on. It was beautiful. Hope to get to the city (one of the pitfalls of rural living) and find some this weekend. Welcome to RCS Erin! This is a really great group of very talented scrappers, and we love to help each other out. Scrapbooking is definately a very rewarding hobby, and addicting! LOL Hobby Lobby & Michaels have been mentioned, along with your local scrapbook store, so have Wal Mart, Target, & Big Lots. If you have any dollar stores in your area, you might check there, too. You would be surprised at where you find scrapbook supplies!

If you have a Big Lots near you I picked up some making memories leather frames and metal borders for 0.99 each today. They also had a tube of tiny glass beads (for shakers) for 0.33, alphabet stickers and other assorted stickers for 0.99 and I got K&Co albums for $3.99 and $7.99 today.
