Hello group,

I post under "Yowie" but my name is Vicky Chapman. My primary group is rec.pets.cats.anecdotes, and I am the keeper of their FAQ

I've been postingto Usenet for 7 years.rec.pets.cats.anecdotes is another one of those groups that has formeda community. We are also very close knit, and very protective of ourgroup. We also do swaps and meets (we are currently inthe middle ofexchanging Holiday cards with our members throughout the world). Iknow you don't know me from a bar of soap, and you are welcome tocheck me out via google, but I am hoping that, because of thisbackground in another community minded, close knit caring and friendlygroup - that is also part of this "big 8" you've been hearing about -and as a poster to news.groups, I feel I can help explain some of thethings that are currently going on without being grossly insensitiveto the dynamics of the group as other people from news.groups havebeen.

If someone came barging in to rpca the way news.groups cam in here, I'd have reacted the exact same way you folks did. I care about rpca and the people who post on it deeply, they are my friends, they are a second family. I'd work very hard not to see that ruined. So if you have any questions about what this whole business with this RFD thing is about, I hope to be able to answer in a reasonable way that you folks can understand. I don't care about top posting, snipping, or html - thats your call, I'm in *your* group (this is not being crossposted to news.groups) and will do my best to fit into *your* culture.

My secondary intent is to learn about scrapbooking. I've heard about it but know nothing about it, however, it does sound like something I'd enjoy.

Feel free to e-mail if you like about this or anything else, however at this point I can assure you that this "RFD" thing won't change you folk or your group. Your relationships with each other is what has made this group so special for you, and nothing this "RFD" thing can do can change those relationships. All it can do is: 1)give the people who want access to this group but can't currently get it through their ISP the ability to access it easily and b) ensure that you have right to to keep the group in its current format.

Looking forward to getting to know you and to learn about scrapbooking too.

Welcome Vicky, I'm pretty new here, but not quite as new at scrapbooking. I have seen many pet scrapbooks, so certainly the two do go hand in hand!

Hope you enjoy the group as much as I have.

Welcome Vicky! Thank you so much for taking the time to shed some light on this and to validate some of our feelings about being protective over our group. This group is so special and I just hate to see some of these posts over the last few days.

I have no pets but I have 2 kids that I love to make albums for. I hope you find some useful information!

Will, the whole business will eventually settle down. Life is short of Usenet :-)

Hopefully Joana and the rest of you will eventually be able to run it through the "becoming official" process yourselves. Honestly, it is worthwhile, but the wounds need to heal first. I wish the hostilies hadn't happened.

In the meantime, I"ve just had a look at a few scrapbook pages of people here and say I'm very jealous! What a great way of presenting family photos (mine are scattered around the house in various boxes and/or on CD Roms). Certainly puts the old traditional photo album to shame!

Of course, it seems to involve *time* which I'm really short of now, but I think when I get all my wedding pictures back and printed out, I'm going to have my first go of scrapbooking them. Wish I'd kept my bouquet now...

Cheers,

Yowie
