just popping in to say hello!

Hello fellow RCS'ers!! Just popped in to say hello to everyone. I've spent the past few weeks restoring old photos in Photoshop. After a few weeks of begging, my mother finally let me borrow her photo albums. I spent days scanning and I've been weeks restoring photos. I almost cried when I found SCOTCH TAPE on a lot of the pictures!! There are pictures of my grandparents and mother dating back to the 1930's but are they ever in terrible condition.

I have yet to scrap a single page BUT when I finish restoring all the photos, I'm going to do an entire album for my Mom as part of her Christmas gift. I have the entire album planned and most of the paper and embellishments picked out as well.

I'm still being a properFLASS - you wouldn't believe the paper and eyelets (to just name a few things) that I've bought on Ebay and locally the past few weeks. LOL.....but then again, I bet all of you WOULD believe it!!!

Way to go Debbie! You sound like you are ready to put that album together in a jiffy! I am sure that you will make your mom cry with joy when she sees it. I hope you'll be able to share a few pages with us too.

Way to go there Debbie! Even if you haven't completed a LO, you're still working towards that goal, so I would say you've been scrapping. (or at least pre-scrapping!). I'm sure your mom will love the album and hope you can share once it's completed.

I just watched a show on Public TV that talked about restoring photos in Photoshop. I've done this a little bit myself, but I was glad to see I was on the right track. Good luck to you and your mother is going to love all the work you put into her album.

Lynne

PS are you going to reprint the photos yourself or take them in to be printed?

Hello Debbie, Quick question for you. Your signiture line says "Debbie on the Rock" where are you from? Are you in Little Rock, AR? Pardon the questions if you've already answered, I've been off the NG for a few days and I don't always get all the posts

What Photoshop do you have and what did you do to restore them? I have Adobe Photoshop, but so far I've just used the free version. Did you pay to have the full version, or do you use a different one? Thanks for the info.

I know exactly what you mean by the condition of the older albums. I have my great-grandmother's album from 1890-1930. They used some kind of glue that was meant to stay. The black paper around the pictures have practially dissolved, it's so brittle, except where the pictures are glued down and they are on both sides. You can't even use an exacto knife on them. I've scanned several of the pictures - so many are not identified and my great-grandmother died when I was 11 years old (she was 93). I did ancestor albums three years ago for my brothers and sisters for Christmas. Back then I was mainly using CM products (No I'm not knocking CM - I've just spread out into other styles since then.). I designed a page for each ancestor I had pictures of, and then duplicated the page 8 times. This way everyone in the family has copies of the pictures and if something ever happens to my house I still have copies of the pictures. Sandy in Southern Indiana

Sounds like you're off to a good start Debbie. Good luck getting the album done in time. I prolly couldn't if I started this close to the holiday.

LOL......no, I'm not from Little Rock, AR. I'm from Newfoundland, Canada. Newfoundland is really Newfoundland and Labrador - Labrador is on the mainland of Canada and Newfoundland is the island and we call it "The Rock" for short!

I use Photoshop 7 and it's the full version which you have to buy. There's a lot of work involved in restoring photos if they're in bad shape. I've had a few years working with graphics so it's not too bad but it's still very time consuming. Here's one site with a few hints on repairing discolored and stained photos:

Hi Debbie. Sounds like you've been very busy. Have you tried Undu on the scotch tape to see if it will lift without damaging the photos.

Don't worry about Kenda. She collects Arkansasan scrapbookers. LOL (She's also probably going to thwap me the next time she sees me for that comment!)

To make a long story short, Kenda was in Little Rock, then MC moved from Florida to Little Rock, & I moved from northeast Arkansas down to Little Rock. Then come to find out, there's another gal new to RCS who lives in the Little Rock area, too! See....Kenda's just collecting us.

Now ain't that the truth about Kenda just collecting us all. And we're all finally getting together this weekend too! I'm really looking forward to it. I'm hoping that we can spend a few minutes and rate the Arkansas LSS that we have been to for the website.
