MC_the_2nd sneaks out of the shadows

Hi to you all,

I have been reading this RCS newsgroup for several months now and have decided the time may be right to come in from the cold....LOL Waving madly to you all from Scotland. I am a mother of three grown-up kids 36, 34, 30, and five grandchildren, so my layouts will predominantly feature them. If I get stuck I can always resort to scrapping my furbaby pictures, as I have 11 shih tzu....LOL

Until December 2004, my initial papercraft hobby was card-making and rubber stamping, although I have only done that for about a year. It was halted somewhat while my DH undertook an attic to craftroom conversion for me, to cope with the ever increasing stash and tools I was gathering. Yes, you guessed it....I am already addicted!! Another one of my *ahem* hobbies is QVCUK.com.....LOL It is a good job DH is a builder, so I now have the whole attic to spread out in and once I finally sort out all the storage it will be brilliant :o)

With regard to scrapbooking, I did my first double LO in late December and since them I have completed a total of 34 pages. I figure that I still have loads to learn but I am enjoying the process. I just go where my heart leads me and I have scrapped some new photos and some old ones. When I get around to opening a webshots account and doing some scanning I will let you have a look at what I have done so far.

Anyway, will need get off this PC and think about the evening meal now. Look forward to being a little more involved with you all, talking about SB.

Regards, MC_the_2nd aka Marilyn

Not at all...Marilyn is easier and less confusing for everyone....LOL I think that we would end up answering one anothers posts....LOL I generally don't use my name for spam reasons but first name is fine :o)

Thanks by I hope there is no high expectations 'cos I am first from Scotland...I am sure there may be others lurking. Perhaps I will encourage them to come out and play.

Yes...but there have been more as I have had the breed since 1979. I am beginning to wind down from showing and breeding but the dogs will end their lives with me.

Will tackle that next as I have opened a Webshots account......just need to work out what to put online.

Actually M-C, there are very few LSS in Scotland and I get most of my stash online or from ebay. Many of the craft stores are moving into card-making supplies, so it is harder to get 12 X 12 papers/cardstock in different variety. Papercraft is not as well established here as it is in the US but the stores are much slower to react to demand. Not all card stock is acid-free either, so it is a little more difficult. The other major issue in the UK is cost...it is quite expensive as most of the paper, tools/equipment are imported from the US. I do have Memory Avenue quite near to me but I try not to visit too often.....last visit I spent over £200.00 and not a lot to show for it either. Here is the link

I also understand that it may be a scrapbook TSV as Rosemary Merry is doing the 12 o'clock slot. Here is a link to Rosemary's site that has a little info on her activities. Essay over....LOL

Thanks Kenda,

I think the addiction part is inevitable if these forums and boards are anything to go by. I used to sit here and chuckle away as you all discussed whether you were Flozzies or Flasses, or both. Afraid I identified myself in every post!

I will be happy to put up a few pics of my craft space but I still have to find more storage, so you will only see the semi-organised bit for now. I am angling for a trip to Ikea, as they have a nice bookcase that would fit the bill and some cubes that would fit 12 X 12 to a tee. Still working on DH but I will get there...LOL

Hi Judy,

Thanks for the welcome. Please use 'Marilyn' as it will help to prevent confusion. I will get some stuff online and send a link through to the group....you may eventually be able to identify areas in some of my planned LO's. We had a stop over in Cape Town when we emigrated to Western Australia in the early 1970's and I am planning to scrap some of them soon.

Okie dokes, Marilyn it is! :) Can't wait to see those Cape Town LO's and how it looked in the 70's! Maybe I should also do a few LO's of how it looks today. One thing is for sure...Table Mountain will still be as fabulous as always! :)) I really love my city, think it's one of the most beautiful places in the world.

I'll be willing to bet that it won't be too long before you get that trip to Ikea....wish we had one here in Arkansas....oh well, as my DH would say, "If wishes were fishes we'd all have a school"

Where to start! Well Abby is so cute and I love the layouts. I really like what you did with the tule through the frame on the picture of you and Bob. I think I need to scraplift that idea! The furbabies are just so well groomed. It must take hours to keep them looking like that and of course the pupies are too cute!

What a nice craftroom you have and I love those rolling carts with the different colors of drawers.

Oh and the Christmas card looked very pretty!

Thank you so much for taking the time to get a webshots account and uploading all of that for us to share!

Welcome, Marilyn!

I had the good fortune to (finally ) visit your lovely country in

2001 (can't wait to go back). I've got friends up in Wick. Traveled from Edinburgh up to Wick, back down the same route (eastern coast) part of the way, then over to Fort William, Glen Coe & back to Edinburgh. Have to see Glasgow someday, as some of my ancestors came from thereabouts, as well as Kirkcudbright.

May I ask where you're at in Scotland? (With all the nuts pestering this newsgroup lately a general response will be fine, or I understand if you'd rather not say at all.)

Thanks M-C....glad you liked what I have created. I am still experimenting and would hope to improve over time. Feel free to scraplift what you like and if you were not across the pond I would send you some of those glitzy buckles....I have tons of them....LOL My DS2 is in fashion industry and designs and makes wedding dresses....or he did before going to SriLanka in July 2004. Thought I had lost him on Boxing Day with the Tsunami.....scary stuff!!!

The picture only shows half the room...there was as much behind me also but to messy to photograph :o) Rolling carts are from Costco...LOL They only take A4 paper and card...not sure what that is to you, 8 1/2 by 11 perhaps. The coloured drawers I use to colour theme paper and card and the deep white drawers contain stamps, stamp pads, embossing tools, punches, stencils, etc.

Thanks you for your positive input - *beginning to blush now*

Thanks for the welcome Alicia. Scotland is a beautiful country at the right time of year...LOL I live in Central Scotland....half way between Edinburgh (east coast) and Glasgow (west coast) not far from Stirling, which you may have heard of courtesy of Mel Gibson.......Braveheart country.....steeped in history. The village I live in is on the edge of Antonine's Wall and is also considered the UFO capital of the world....and NO I haven't seen any ET type characters...:o)

I would love to see some of your LO from your trip and I am just thinking about some of the scenery pictures I could scrap......mmmmmm!
