Out of warranty machinery's

I did want to add this to the Tread "Follow-up on Problems" In 1998 I purchased a piece of machinery (made in China) from a well known Machine Tool Icon in Canada and the US. The basic cost was $495.00 CAD. Four weeks ago blue smoke emanated out and the machine came to a stop creating a very loud noise. The store that sold me this tool replied that the warranty had expired. I then wrote to the Manufacturer's National Service Manager. Authorization was given to their local service agent to investigate and report the findings. I took the equipment to the service agent. The National Service Manager gave the service agent a work order and parts were sent. Yesterday I pick up the equipment at no cost for repair time, parts and shipping. I asked the service agent what happen when the equipment can not be move by a single person. He replied given me the names of companies that authorize travelling time to repair and investigate malfunction of equipment. This situation is for a $495.00 CAD piece of equipment made in China and sold in Canada 5 years ago. What I read in the other tread related to a piece of equipment made in America and bought at a much higher price. The correlation between the two gives food for tough when it comes to purchase an expensive piece of equipment. Could that be the reason why equipment made in the orient are coming more popular? I have documented the situation well and purposely omitted names. FWIW
