mini sewing machines

Anyone use one of these? I just bought a sewing genie at Target today. I really like the clean look of stitching on a page and thought this would be neat to try. Any opinions/reviews before I bust it out of the box? Did I totally buy the wrong one? I did *no* research on this which is very unlike me.

well, I bought one, but I totally CANNOT sew with a machine or otherwise. I've only used mine once. I can say this PRACTICE before you use it on a page. I couldn't make a straight line, but like I said, I really can't sew, so I assume it's me! :)

Uh-oh! I can't sew either...much to my mother's chagrin.

Practicing straight lines is easy. Remove the thread from the machine and sew "threadless" on lined loose leaf paper. The lines will act as guides for you to practice on.

excellent idea. silly me, I thought the machine would have a straight edge guide or something, lol!

Jenn I drew a mark on the inside (which would be the right side of the page) of my machine, that is what serves as a guide.

Oh! Another great idea! Thanks Shelley! Do you use a real machine or one of these mini ones?

I have both, but prefer my real machine.

I have the one from Provo Craft (used a Michael's coupon and I think I paid about $7 for it) and at first I hated it - it seemed really hard to control the paper going thru it.

Then I unhooked the adapter and put batteries in it and it worked a lot better - slowed down a little!
