My scrapbook housekeeping

Nov 27, 2006 9 Replies

So when my stuff gets all disorganized I stop scrapping and we can't have that. I hate that feeling of chaos that comes with disorganization (ok, I'm sounding a bit like a freak here, lol) so I go on a tear and get my stuff straightened up. Today I attacked my paper. I have the cropper hopper vertical storage cases with dividers. I had all my cardstock, whole pieces and scraps organized by color but I was having a hard time finding what I needed and never used my scrap pieces. ("scrap" to me is less than a 1/4 sheet. I don't typically use anything less than that) I took all the whole sheets and put them in their own sleeves in the vertical cases. red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, pink, brown/tan, white, black, grey. Then I did the same for just the scraps. Through all that re-arranging I found that I had way more dividers than I needed so I guess I have to buy more cardstock!

Did you do any scrapbook related housekeeping today?

I was at a crop once and saw a really cool fiber storage system and it was so basic. She had a basket full of clothespins wrapped with a fiber. she just clipped the end of the fiber/ribbon to the clothespin then wrapped it around and clipped it to hold. all the pins stood up in the basket so you could easily see everything. I keep meaning to do it. I'm sure I have a basket somewhere and a bag of pins only costs a few bucks.

No reorganizing here. I did do some straighening up of my craft table. I've been working on Christmas cards and had a little mess. Right now, I have all my cardstock that I'm using for Christmas cards standing up in a crate, along with any other paper for Christmas cards. All my Christmas, backgroud, seasonal words, etc stamps are in my rolling tote. There's only

22 stamp sets out right now. LOL

I used to keep my scraps seperate, but found I never went for my scraps. So each color of cardstock has it's own ziploc bag. Of course, then the 12 x

12 cardstock won't fit. My goal is to eventually have Craft Keepers for each color of cardstock. That way, the 12 x 12 fit, the 8 1/2 x 11 fit, and the scraps fit...all in one place.

Well....I did do some cleaning in my scrapbook room, but then I messed it up again. Trying to get cards finished and gifts together. I did actually do 7 pages last week while I was off. However, they were in the wedding album I'm doing for my brother. I think I'm gonna see if I can get a copy of it made for me before I give it to them. I have three of those 3-drawer carts stacked together that hold my paper and cardstock. I have cardstock in the bottom one by color, and then pattern paper in the others. I have a box on top of the stack that holds my scraps. I just throw them in there when I'm done with a page. If it's in view I tend to use it more.

LOL, funny you ask. I was feeling pretty good yesterday and was all caught up on Christmas stuff, that my area was trashed. So I put away, throwed away and sorted some stickers. I also had a couple cards to make for other than Christmas and did those.

About paper storage. I tried that same technique too Jenn at first and hated it!

What I have now is three of those snap lid 12x12 plastic see thru cases like from Michaels or somewhere. Then I labeled them, one for solid color pieces, one for printed pieces and one for Bazzill pieces. I works ok except the little pieces seem to end up at the bottom and when I am looking for a piece I end up dumping the whole thin out and find everything but what I want - LOL!!

So just a idea and it also would work for the youngens, you tell them they can have some paper out of the cases and fine, they don't (LOL!) get into the full sheets!

Deb if you get the 2 gallon zip lock bags, the 12 x 12 paper will fit into them. I'm not sure how much you can put in each one, but it works.

I guess in a way I did some scrapbook housekeeping as I went a bought a corner desk top and some side desks to get my room more organized. Now I have to put it all together! OH and I bought a comfy chair as the chairs I have in there are not that comfortable for lengthy sitting. I'm also going to get some storage file like cabinates to go under parts of the desk after I get it together and figure out how much room I have under there to put stuff. I'll take pictures once I get it all figured out.

I'd love to see pictures. We are in the process of finishing off our basement and I get a scraproom! My dh's friend will do some built-in's but I really want it to be right before we do anything permanent.

I forgot about those. Thanks Cathy. I'll see if I can pick up a box of them and try them out.
