My scrapping afternoon

First thing was to get my new Making Memories Paper Trimmer out of the packaging. Got cut, broke a pair of scissors and 45 minutes later I was no closer to getting it out of the packaging then when I started. Put it aside and will return it to the store gashes and slashes galore but still safely secured in the package.

Next it was time to install my new Cricut Design Studio on my laptop. Put the cd in and nothing happened. Tried to open in windows explorer and it doesn't see any files. Try another cd, it won't read that one either. Ask son to assist, he tells me my cd drive is broken. Now I am freaking out but he saves the day and loads the cd onto a flash drive and then I am able to install from that.

I put in Mickey and Friends. I sit there and stare at it because I have no idea what to do or how to do it. I read the book, the instructions suck and most of the book isn't in English. Almost lost my temper and was about to rip out every nonEnglish page but I took a deep breath and got a grip. I went to the Cricut board and found a tutorial.

First cut was the background, load the paper and it cuts away. Unload paper and try to remove the Mickey and I find it didn't cut all the way through the cardstock. I fool with the dials and using a new piece of cardstock I try it again. It cuts all the way thru and nearly cuts thru my mat as well. (Note: do not set the blade to 5 and the pressure to high and tell it to go over the cut 3x, it was a bit excessive and I'm lucky the mat was still intact) It's all good though, I finally have the black piece. The next part is easy except I couldn't find a good color of cardstock to use for his face. I cut his face 6 times with different shades of flesh colored cardstock and then wound up using the first piece I cut. The shorts, buttons, eyes, etc cut out without further incident. I filled the rest of the sheet with flowers as not to waste the paper.

At this point my afternoon is gone and it will have to wait until after dinner. I decide to use the Xyron 510 and I see there is a perm cartridge in there. I go to get a repositionable cartridge and I don't have one! I have at least 10 refills for the 250, and a min of 3 refills each for the 250 and

900 but none at all for the 510. I decide to use the perm cartridge already in the 510 because...well I am going to be very careful...

One mistake, I loaded one of the eyes upside down in the Xyron and had to recut the eyes. It took me about 5 trying hours to make Mickey but I am so excited by all the possibilities! He is 10.5 inches high and I have no idea what I am going to do with him. Tomorrow I am going to try Minnie.

Sounds like you had quite the rigmarole of an afternoon. As Barb said I admire your determination. A lesser person would have thrown their hands in the air and called it quits.

Oh my, that is one precious Mickey! Glad you finally get it done! I'm sure that after working some of the bugs out tonight, tomorrow's Minnie will be a lot easier to make.

If it hadn't really happened I would have thought it was a scene out of some slapstick comedy! I am amazed that you ended your afternoon in high spirits and excited. As everyone prior has said, you were quite a determined lady!

Well I am working on taking on deep breath and walking away for a few minutes because otherwise I am going to give myself a heart attack.

He's awesome! And your story of your day made me laugh. Not at you, but just the way you wrote it. I think we've all had those days! Kathy

You have much more patience than I do. I would have stopped after not being able to open the paper trimmer!

Your Mickey Mouse is great. I have that cartridge but haven't cut any of the characters out yet. I need to sit down and play with it some..

He looks great but I would never be that persistent. I just don't have the patience. :) I hope the next one is much easier.
