Only 1 page done???

Yesterday afternoon my sister dropped on her 12 year old daughter to scrap for 45 minutes???. Of course we only got the pictures scanned and printed before my sister was back to pick her up. She said she would drop her off this morning and my niece arrived here at 10:30am having already gone to the YMCA for karate lessons at 9am. I selected the papers and made up a couple of diecuts for her to use last night. My sister returned to pick her up at noon time and was a bit upset that we only completed one single page layout in an hour and a half. My niece had to cut mats (her first time using perfect layers), cut flower tags with the sizzix and then cut out the letters she wanted to use with the sizzix and then put it all together. Then she had to punch holes and she used pink flower eyelets to attach the tags. This was her first time setting eyelets as well as using the sizzix on her own. I thought we got alot done!

As she was pulling away she said well I'm glad you have the time to play all day but I have things to do. I went in laughing, she runs around like a chicken with her head cut because she choses to do so. She signs her kids up for 10 things a day and is always running here and there instead of just letting her kids enjoy their summer. My niece told me that she is exhausted, she has cheerleading at 12:30 then she has to go to the mall to get her friend a birthday present, then she has some ranger program at the local nature center and then she has softball practice and then she has to come home and get a shower to go to a sleepover. Her son has football practice, the ranger program and then he gets to go to the field to watch softball practice and then she promised to take him and his friend to play laser tag when his sister goes to the party. This kind of stuff goes on all day long all summer long.

Oh well, I am going outside to lay by the pool and work on my tan now LOL.

Doesn't sound like you're sister knows what's involved in Scrapbooking. Sounds like you got a lot done to me. I'm glad you find time between tannings to spend time with your niece. :) Sounds like she needs a little down time.

I too, let the kids enjoy summer. They are usually signed up for one thing at a time. Although DD made the choice of signing up for water polo at the same time as soccer practice. Water polo at 8:30am and soccer at 6:30pm. She's a trouper and doing well, but I can tell she's tired. Water polo ends this week thank goodness.

I get the "I have a life!" comment occasionally from some hurried person, who dropped the ball on something important and like you I chuckle to myself and say "I choose to not overbook myself and live up to all my obligations."

I feel sorry for the kids! Summertime is supposed to be when kids can get a break and recharge their batteries for the next school year, not rush frantically from one thing to another all day long :( A lot of people seem to think that if they don't schedule every moment of their day their kids will (shock, horror) get bored and actually demand some attention from them!

Sounds like you and your niece had a good time, even if for such a short amount of time. I don't keep the kids real busy in the summer. It gives us more time to relax. I actually stay busier than they do! LOL
