Nah. It was smooth, unfinished wood already.

I've done decoupage on unfinished wood before. Mod Podge works very well. A year or so ago I was doing another project, and I had a mess up and went to peel up the paper but it had been too long and it was already starting to dry. I couldn't get the paper off without it tearing, and then I had to scrape and sand to get the Mod Podge and remaining bits of paper off before starting over, so that stuff was really stuck down.

I did NOT use the "Paper Mod Podge" for this project, because when I tried it the paper started wrinkling up right away. The regular stuff worked better, but I guess it isn't acid free.

Luna, That turned out so pretty. DD signed up for decopage in 4-H this year. I have to show it to her. She would love to have a table like this in her room. Thanks for sharing. Sandy

Luna, that is a great looking table! You did a really nice job on it. Something to remember if we have something that we need to spruce up.

Your table is beautiful Luna. I can see lots of little girls wanting a fairy table for their rooms.

It came out really pretty Luna! A friend of mine found a "wrinkle free" adhesive. It was either Mod Podge, or rubber cement. I can't remember which one it was. I'll see if I can ask her again which one it was.

Thanks! Thing about Mod Podge is, it comes in varieties. The regular, matte kind I've used for ages for collages and decoupage with no wrinkling problem, but then when I got into scrapbooking I started caring about stuff being acid free. So, Mod Podge has a more expensive variety called "Paper Mod Podge" which is acid free, but when I used it, it caused wrinkling. I'm not sure about the acid-free status of rubber cement, but I know it doesn't wrinkle. But . . . it can't also be used as a sealer like Mod Podge can. The sealer part of it isn't just important to me for protecting the surface, it also actually "encapsulates." Meaning if I have two overlapping papers and I Mod Podge over them, the top one won't peel up. Spray sealers don't seem to accomplish that, so if I use only a spray sealer I have to make sure my glue underneath the paper goes all the way to the edge, which means some is going to get squeezed out when I flatten stuff and end up on the top too anyway, so it may as well be something that's actually formulated to also go on top. If that rambling doesn't make any sense, I apologize. :o)
