that got nowhere, oh well

just finally got enough energy to make a call to Margaret. last time she had time to come round i sent her home with a few bits of fabric with freezer paper ironed on, some thread and a background square of fabric to practice some applique on. after the call this morning she just wasnt happy with the outcome so biffed it in the bin. she likes the idea of making a small wall hanging but her stitching efforts just didnt please her. wish i'd seen what it looked like. each of the few times she came round she only had maybe half an hour at best so was really hard to get stuck into showing her and getting her to try it while here. so i've given up the idea of her taking up any quilting. besides she works full time, has her early morning trip to the gym, keeps the housework etc to do after work, then on weekends visits with her dad in the resthome, taking him out and about too. so she really just doesnt have the time, energy nor it seems the inclination to learn this. oh well, i tried. i guess now she can let off babysitting me as there isnt much to fill in the time. she suggests a cuppa coffee at some nearby cafe but for me that is more of an effort than the applique is for her i think. i just dont go out of the house anymore.

I'd come over for free applique class if I were a few thousand miles closer to you. :-)

I know the circumstances aren't the same, but I am sort of a self-imposed recluse and when I *can* push myself to get out, I do feel better and have a more positive attitude. It's hard to do, darn near impossible some days.

Hey Jeanne, I'm going to be in your neighborhood in a month....want to teach me applique?

Why oh why can't we live closer together, Jeanne? I'm a bit of a shut- in. Mostly because it takes so darned much energy to get myself pulled together and then go out and brave the big world that I'm wiped by the time I get home. But visiting with a friend for a bit? That's always good. And I could use some lessons on the finer points of applique. Maybe you can come to the U.S. for a visit sometime. That would be such a kick! You could just go from one RCTQ-er to the next, all across the country. I volunteer to host you in the great American Inland Pacific Northwest. North Central Washington. The Apple Capital of the World. My door is open.

Well Jeanne, it may be that Margaret is more of a "quilt admirer" than a quilter--in the same way that I'm more of a "music admirer" than a musician. :-) So I'm betting even if you never make a quilter out of her, she's still enjoying visiting you. Doesn't mean she's "babysitting" you at all.

Heck, if nothing else, you both enjoy coffee. If you can't make it out, invite her for coffee.
