OT: Explaining my absence from the NG

Hi All,

Just a quick post to let you know that I am fighting my way back from major PC problems. Just after I posted to the NG last time I began to have a series of weird errors and needed to restore my system several times. Then I couldn't get the darn thing to boot up without putting the Windows Startup Disk in the floppy drive. I tried every trick I knew to save having to reformat but no luck :( I decide that there was nothing else for it but to do a clean install....BUT......then I couldn't get the CD-ROM or DVD-ROM to work...so I couldn't install the operating system. We went at the weekend and bought a new CD-writer and I put it in on Monday. Then I started to have problems with the Hard-Drive....Argggh!!! Couldn't make up my mind whether to buy a new HDD or wait and go search for a new system as this one is getting on a bit....LOL Anyway, I bit the bullet today and bought a new drive and installed it and I am now up and running again...fingers crossed.....no more gliches.

I have quickly scanned the NG and will take a little time to catch up before jumping in. I hope that Hurricane Katrina doesn't affect too many folks and I see that Sabrina, Judy (and her Mum) are having health issues. I am sending positive thoughts their way and hope they are all on the mend soon. I hope that you and yours are all safe and well!!

Take care, Marilyn

Here I thought you were still walking about losing weight and getting skinny. I really need to do more walking and less computer and crafting. Why can't I pick a more athletic hobby?

It's amazing how much we miss computers when they're not there, huh? LOL You are missed when you're not around, Marilyn! Here's hoping your computer will behave itself.

Still walking, XL gliding and doing Pilates Lynne :o) I do wish the weight loss would reflect the effort (both physical and positive eating plan) but it will be a long time before I could ever lay claim to being skinny......LOL Seems that I am at that difficult age when everything slows down....except I think my metabolism has gone into hibernation I just keep plugging away at it but it is going to be harder now that it is dark by

9.00 p.m and the weather is less settled.....Autumn is just around the corner for us...sigh!

And I thank you for the good thoughts,Marilyn. I came home from my "sleepover" and what did I do? Slept the day away ! Haw Haw It is not a good sleep withlots of wires attachecd to your head and face ,body and legs. Very nice suite, though and I had this very gentle attendant. Little uncomfortable knowing I was being filmed and watched. I will know ,hopefully tomorrow ,when my doctor sees the report.

I'll watch this space for your news update Sabrina :o) Sorry you didn't really enjoy your "sleepover" but I do hope that you end up with a positive outcome from the experience. It will all have been worth it then :o)

Little up date: Got a call from the sleep center today and I do have sleep apnea plus a lot of restless movement. They want me to come back and "sleep" again with the CPAP machine on. I told them I would get back to them! LOL Gotta check out if these things are covered on my insurance. Someone said they did not think so and it's pretty costly. I will also talk to the Dr. office.

it usually is, both my hubby and I both use one and you can rent machines too... also ask around on your local freecycle for a used machine... my friend's broke and we asked for one and someone donated one to her!

I can well imagine that it was a tiring experience! Do wonder you slept when you got home. I doubt that I'd sleep a wink! I wonder how that can give them a true look at your sleep patterns. Did they give you a light sedative or anything?

Thanks for the info RJ!! I am finding out that many people have this problem and all say they wish they had gotten diagnosed sooner.

A M-C....They did not give me anything to sleep. I fell asleep early because I had not slept well the night before and did not have a nap. But I awoke at 3 am and it was a little hard to go back to sleep. I will be going back again on Thrusday to sleep with the machine so they can compare. Ugh
