I was just wondering how do you form an unofficial newsgroup? I have wanted to start a newsgroup for girlscouts but did not want to go through the rigmarole of creating an "official group" it takes weeks, if not months. Any ideas? Soni
Well the way is to ask your provider to add a name space (warning such name space might already exist on some servers) , then ask friends to ask thier providers to add the same name space. Once you get enough providers carring the group there might be at least one peering with another and you will be able to send and receieve posts from other users.
You could also go the alt.* or free.* route that takes little time to send a control nessage, you however will still need to have friends ask thier providers to add the group.
You might try forming or joining an existing Girl Scouts group on Yahoo Groups. Tons of them there, many are quite good.
