Sunday morning

Since I have announced my return I figured that I would wish every one a good Sunday morning. What am I doing? catching up.

It is a lovely summer morning here and promising to be only about 28c so that is not too hot, Frank has gone "outside" fishing - in our Aussie lingo that means out in theocean in a small boat - not my idea of fun.

I must first tell you of our good news - Colleen (dd#2) has become engaged to be married in about September and we are very excited about that - but not so about the fact that she has been diagnosed with Lupus. She has not been well for quite awhile but is feeling better now that she is on treatment and her lovely fiance is so caring about her that it makes us so thankful that she has fallen in love with such a nice guy.

I have kept very busy ,and at least computer happy while isolated from the internet ,because with the new computer came Colleen's Christmas present, a scanner copier. So I have been scanning the first of literally hundreds if not thousands of photos I want to put on DVD ( the DVD player was my birthday gift last year from both DDs). So far having started with my mothers photos and then on to mine I have only got to 1957 so far and have scanned over 800 and this was in the days when photographs were not as plentiful as recent times - I have no idea how many I will have to do of my travels.

Have a great day God bless Gwen

Gwen you have a variety of news in your life... both good and not so wonderful (about your daughter.... I do wish her well and will send prayers out for her).

How neat that you not only got a new computer, but also a scanner too.... and a DVD player too. That's pretty cool. :o) When Matthew got this computer it came with a CD/DVD burner/player (or whatever it's called... that's what it *does* anyway), so he has been downloading a lot of music and movies to the computer and will eventually burn them onto his disks to save. Some are the original Japanese animae (in Japanese with English subtitles). He doesn't mind reading the subtitles while watching a movie, but I hate doing that... I want to hear what is being said while watching the movie.

Anyway... off track... have a blast putting all your pictures on the DVDs. Don't forget to send me a jpg picture of yourself to put on the RCTY Friends Photo Album. Send it to gemsawriter AT yahoo DOT ca with RCTY Photos in the subject line and your name in the body of the message so I can add it to the picture. If you want to see the pictures of the rest of "the family" (we have 34 pictures now.... no, my picture *isn't* there yet, I haven't found it on any of the gazillion disks we have here yet) just click on the link following my signature.

Once again, welcome "home" Gwen! :o)

Haha, Gwen! I, too, have a DH who is constantly outside doing things that aren't my idea of fun. LOL

And I, too, have been trying (not enough lately, though, I'll admit) to get all the family photos scanned and put to digital for safekeeping. I have scanned both Grandmothers' albums and photo collections (they are both gone now, and it's lovely to work on their pictures and see them young and pretty and vibrant), my Mother's albums (of which there are at least ten) plus lots of pics my MIL allowed me to bring home and work on. Though ALL have needed a LOT of repair (cracked, scratched, faded, etc.), MIL's were really a wreck and took HOURS and HOURS ... even WEEKS and WEEKS for recreating missing portions, etc.

I've found that when family members die, SO much family history dies with them. I try to keep the info exchange alive and well throughout the families, and preserving the pictures is another facet of that preservation venture.

I really should spend more time working at them again 'cause I've allowed them to "sit" inside the 'puter for months and months now untouched.

It must be mid-day or so by you now, Gwen, while it's to-bed time for me here (East Coast, USA). G'night and G'day to ya all at once! Eve :o)

LOL Don't even try to catch up, Gwen! Have you set up an online album yet? If you are scanning your piccies, and saving them toDVD, then it would be just as easy to have an album which you could share with friends. (Hint! Hint!)

Gwen it is still Saturday here, but not for very long andymore. What great news that your daughter is getting married. Sad that it comes with the bad news that she has Lupus. We have a guildmember who also has had lupus for a very long time. With good medical help, she is doing very well. So that is good news again, that there is lots that can be done so your daughter can live a as normal life as possible. Is this your daughter who is the horse trainer.

I also have a new scanner, as well as a new Mac computer. Lots of fun. I can now talk with, and see my family in Toronto, at the same time. I also have been scanning old pictures, fun to go down memory lane.

I am now off to bed and talk to you tomorrow again

Bit overcast here Gwen, but the sunday morning wishes aren't, more than one post from you is brill of course. I'm preparing the dinner, well its all done, not time yet to put the vegs on though.

Craftwise, keep altering my mind on what to make with some plyed alpaca I spun last week. it wasn't enough to make a scarf, so am now doing mittens.

Also spinning some new fleece called Bowmont, found in our country, as a new cross breed of Merino and Shetland, it's is very soft like cotton wool.

Hi Gwen, Nice to see you back. I am sorry to hear that your DD is sick. But am also glad that she has found the man of her dreams. I am sure she will be happy. I wish her well.

We are going to the Nj Home and Garden show today. We are talking the in-laws and after home to catch some dinner. I guess it is never to early to start thinking about spring and planting. I can't wait for warm weather to come and stay!

My MIL still plants a huge garden, about a quarter acre, each year. She lives for that garden. Her veggies are great and we all get them each summer. She also raises chickens and tends to homing pigeons. She has tons of energy!

Eve I agraee that keeping the photos "alive" with names etc is great for the next generations - I too started with my great grandmother and have worked up 1970 of "Kelly Family". I think I have now scanned at least a thousand photos and since thatis only to 1970 I have a way to go - than I will think about getting them on to DVDs.

Yes, Els the best part of the scanning is the memory lane trek and seeing pictures I have not seen for years as they have been hiding in albums too hard to get at

Gwen, I am with Katherine, forget about catching up, we will tune you in along the way, with all that is happening here. When you scan your pictures, do not forget to ever so often put them on disks, other wise you may run out of space on your computer.....LOL. I find it handy to have dates and good lables on my folders so I can find it all back again. With a real album you can flip through the pages and quickly find that special shot back. On the computer It can become a very long search before you find some pictures back that were strangly labeled........LOL Been there done that

Gwen, just a suggestion... I wouldn't completely get rid of your actual pictures just because you are saving them on the computer or onto disks. God forbid something should happen to your system or to your disks and you don't have the originals anymore. What about your daughters? Would they have room to store the photos (and albums) for you at their places?

Someday I plan to do the same that you and others are doing... save pictures to disks, but I will never get rid of the actual photographs. It's like... I have a lot of my poetry saved to disks, but I still have paper copies too. A lot of the paper copies are also done in a "poor man's copyright" for legal reasons.

Interesting to read about the homers. My DH raises Racing Homers, and even won some trophies in December! She must have lots of energy to do all that - especially since one of the "joys" of pigeons is "scraping" the loft - all that pigeon poop!! It's a great fertilizer though. Even though I'm not all that fond of them, sometimes I feed them peanuts for a treat, and at that last show, I bought two Modena pigeons, which look more like fancy chickens than pigeons. DH looks after them, I just look at them. I'll have to upload a couple of pics to my Yahoo album and post a link (laugh).

Good Morning everyone!

I actually have some time today to say hello. The Olympics skating isn't on until this afternoon....

The weather has warmed up considerably from a couple of days ago, and I'm very glad of that because DH & I have to split some wood for the woodstove this afternoon. We had to drive into Winnipeg yesterday to buy me a new battery for my car. I have no complaints - the old one lasted 14 years!

Welllllllll - the knee surgery is coming up on Tuesday and I must admit I'm a little nervous, even though it's day surgery and not a major thing. Wish me luck! I want to be able to go downhill skiing again!

I'm finishing up a lapghan for myself from 8" squares, most of which came from my knitting pal in Nebraska. The rest I needed to finish it up are ones I made myself.

Also on the needles - the never ending Peacock Feathers Shawl and the rectangular shawl from the plum chenille. I just keep plugging away on them...

Have a great Sunday everyone.
