OT: I give up....

I've told them and I've told them. If the internet goes down (we're wirelessly connected) DON'T TOUCH A DAMN THING until we get home.

Do my f***in in-laws listen no. They know everything.

One week later we are back up. I could spit bricks.

All because MSN was switching over to be faster and wasn't compatible with our router without a patch. DAMN IT. If only they had f***in listened. Both our computers wouldn't have crashed, hard drives wiped out, etc.

I now have triple passworded everything on this computer so they can't get at anything without it. It's a password from my past that even Larry wouldn't guess.

to add insult to injury while I was sitting making christmas cards my damn father in law said "Kate shouldn't you be putting the clothes away instead of playing?" F U!

Give me strength and thannks for letting me vent.

Kate

This is where you messed up. What you need to do is say if the internet goes down you must do this and then this and then this and then this and then that in the proper sequence. Use a lot of computer sounding terms like registry, ftp, etc., and tell them to make sure the cgi-bin is less than 4kb and that all operations must be done from the command prompt and they will have to use telenet to access the host file. You have to make it sound so complicated that they won't want to even attempt it.

You can't change your in-laws but you can change how you react to them. I learned the hard way that when you let someone make you really mad you are giving them power over you.

My MIL is the twin sister of Marie Barone so I can relate.

Well hopefully you will get your own place in the coming year and in 5 years you will be able to look back and laugh about it.

LOL

You have to make it sound so complicated that they won't want to even attempt it. "Been there done that, still doesn't work"

I think the greatest irony of this whole situation is when the tech support from verizon asked us to eMail him the error message we were getting. He never could get past the fact we couldn't sign on to the internet to do that.

My inLaws are still down but we are up. After much troubleshooting it was the routers fault.

Well I got one for you. I pay for my Mom's pogo subscription every year. She was in the hospital when it came due but I renewed it anyway. Unfortanately after the hospital she spent another 6 weeks in a nursing home before coming home. After getting her all situated and driving home the day she came home she calls me at 11pm and says her pogo isn't working and said I didn't renew. I thought maybe I didn't click something and went in and paid again. She calls at 11:20 and says it is still not working and will I please come over and fix it right now. She lives 45 minutes away. I got out of my pj's and drove over and when I clicked on the game she wanted to play it said your java is out of date, click here to install the newest version. I about wanted to scream but after a few minutes downloading the update she was happily playing her games. ;o)

In-laws and mothers... you got to love them (even when you're hating them)!

Good luck with that, really I hope you do get to escape from the chaos sooner rather than later :) Keep your chin up and vent to M-C and Dave anytime you need to :)
