DS #1 had knee surgery today. Took him to the dr. on Tuesday and surgery was scheduled for today. He fell off a half wall at school, last year! I'd say you need to go to the dr., he'd so "no I don't, I'll be fine. he finally asked to go. (I didn't ask why he was up there or how he fell off, he told the nurse that the wall jumped out from under him! lol ) The MRI showed that he had a possible torn cartilage behind the knee. Well, it was "fringed" so that was cleaned up, the dr. found that he's also torn his ACL about half way when he fell off this wall. It's healed and is very stable. He is of the opinion that it "scar in nicely". DS also had some damage to the plica shelf in the knee due to traumatic injury(that's what I had to have repaired/removed), like falling off a wall, he also has some softening of some of the cartilage on the front of the knee due to the injury. The Dr. cleaned up and fixed all that could be fixed, tested the strength of the knee and said he will still be 100% in about 6 weeks. I have far more faith in this dr. than in mine and know that he knows what he's doing. So it looks like he'll still be on track for basic training the middle of June, that's his main focus.
My mother went back to work last Monday after she had a knee replaced just before Christmas. She's doing great and looking forward to having the next one done.
I am doing allot better. I've been working with the physical therapist 5 days a week, only allowed a certain number of visits but he told me I could come in on their slow days and he'd make sure that I did all the exercises and it would be "off the record". He knows how much I want to get back to work. My knee still swells where the lateral release was done, not sure why. I've lost allot of flexibility, doesn't seem like that's going to come back. The PT doesn't think so either, he's been doing this 20 years and really knows his stuff. I can now kneel on the knee and put some weight on it so that's good. We're not sure if I'll ever be able to squat again, that's part of the flexibility that I've lost. But I can live with that, as the pain is gone. I see the dr. on Tuesday and will ask to go back to work, full duty. We'll see how that goes. I'm crossing my fingers.
