This is all Irene's fault. LOL She shared the "Shrunkin Treasures" link and I just HAD to try the mosaic tiles. I didn't have the mosaic tape the artist used, or the Diamond Glaze....but looking back, I think I had the same type of stuff, just in a different name.....oh well! I scanned the card and it's in my Yahoo photo page. It's the last card in the Cards album. It honestly looks better in person, but due to the thickness of the tiles, it has a shadowy look to it in the scan. I was really pleased with the card! I'll be showing that to my stamp camp group today...well, the one that can make it today. LOL No biggie, she's a dear friend and we'll have fun. Kenda will get to do the card next week if we can set up a play day.
*hint hint Kenda!* You guys have to try this sometime! Thank you Irene for sharing the website link! Here's what I did....
I tore the shrink plastic (aka Shrink Film at Hobby Lobby..that's where I got mine) like she did in the video clip. Used my heat tool to shrink it like she did. Instead of a chopstick, I simply picked up my bone folder and used it to hold the plastic down and get it to flatten out once it starts uncurling. Once it was completely shrunk and uncurled, I stamped my image into the warm plastic. It worked! I was so excited! LOL I showed DH....he was confusedly impressed I think. LOL To add color, I poured a little Lumeire onto a plastic lid and mixed in some Flamingo Pink Pearl Ex powder. I simply painted that on the tile, then wiped off the excess with a paper towel. The result was an all over pink pearl look, with the darker pink in the recesses of the tile. I really like doing that better than the artists way of using the Diamond Glaze and ink. She said it would take about 15 minutes to dry. It took WAY less than 15 minutes for the pink pearly paint to dry! I think sometime I'll play again and use the SU Crystal Effects and some ink and do the way she showed in the video.
On to mounting....LOL......again, no mosaic tape. I improvised and used a piece of white cardstock and ran it through my Xyron X box thingy. Placed the painted tiles on the sticky side. (I did discover that it's a good idea to play with the tiles on the cardstock BEFORE you run it through the Xyron. LOL) I used silver micro beads instead of the clear she used. Again, I really liked that effect. I just used glue dots to adhere the tile piece to the Taken With Teal mat, and glue dots for the mat to the card.
