OT: Remembering Our Veterans

Just wanted to take a moment on Memorial Day (in the U.S.) to thank our veterans & their family & friends for their sacrifices.

I never knew my uncle, who lost his life in WW II. To bring this on topic, he's in the album I did for my mom's 80th birthday, but I don't have any of those pages up on webshots. My dad was also a WW II vet. Thankfully he & his 4 brothers who served all returned home safely. One of the pages from dad's WW II experiences is up on webshots:

A heartfelt "thanks!" to all of our veterans, past & present, to those who returned home & those who didn't, & to the families at home who sacrificed with those who served.

As a Canadian born of Belgian parents and having myself served 25 years in the Canadian Forces before moving to the US, I want to add my thanks to the US veterans who have served the cause of freedom.

Without their sacrifices millions of people not just in the US but also around the world and particularly in Europe would be living a very different lives.

As we watched a parade go by, Sarah in her one-year old enthusaism waved at everyone.

A man in full WW2 uniform came over to give her a flag. She took the flag and handed it to her mom, stood up looked the man in the eyes and said "thanks beedom" which we translated to the tearing up sectarian as Thanks freedom. she plopped down took her flag and kissed it. After kissing it she waved it with such gusto she clonked herself in the head with it.

The man saluted Sarah and in her way she blew him a kiss.

I hope to remember this scene forever as she has learned to respect and thank the members of the military. This will be one Memorial Day that will remain in my heart forever.

Love, kate

Thanks for sharing that! My DHs uncle was POW from the Bulge and my mom's uncle and her cousin's FIL both crossed the river near Koln (Cologne) at the same time not knowing the other!

We spent the wekeend in Normandy while my son particpated in the Memorial Service at the cemetery with the Boy Scouts in his troop. We saw Omaha and Utah Beaches as well as Point Du Hoc. We actually camped on the cemetery grounds there. It was quite an experience. One I hope CG never will forget! The USAF had a flyover to start the service, done in French and English. We stopped at the biggest US military cemetery in Europe on the way back to Heidelberg, Muese Argonne, from WWI. Both places were amazing. The neat thing for us in normandy along with camping on the grounds was to go down after hours to the actual beach there at Omaha. Wow doesn't cover it.

I updated webshots today:
