Is Vetarans Day the 11th of Nov the day we know as Armistice? Just curious.
It's a Bank holiday here but I have to work as the markets are on whatever the day, so I am quite cross about that. I shan't be able to get to the cenotaph until after the ceremony to lay my poppy and cornflower.
We call it Remembrance Day in Canada.
It's a holiday in some provinces, a quasi-holiday in others. It isn't crassly commercialized like it can be the USA .. ie: Veterans Day Sales Ugghh .

You wouldn't hear a Happy Remembrance Day wish - it's a more somber event - definitely not a celebration. Bone-chilled, poppy-wearing crowds huddled at the cenotaphs ; .. The Last Post ; In Flanders Fields ;

Respectful businesses will withhold their Christmas decorations until after Nov. 11. .. but many jump-the-gun.
Je me souviens Lest we forget

Yes in the Uk it's Remembrance day although they have the bad habit of celebrating on the nearest Sunday so this year on the 12th .
Here in France it's on the 11th whatever that day turns out to be so when it's a weekday, I can attend but on a Sat or Sunday I have to work which is a shame. There is also a separate bank holiday on May 8th for VE day.
There may be some certain lead-up events held prior to Nov. 11, but our cenotaph ceremonies are 11:00 Nov. 11. The big one in Ottawa is televised. Many businesses will halt operations just prior to 11:00 to recognize the 2 minutes of silence and broadcast the Last Post over the public address. You might even see some cars pulled over on the highways at 11:00. One argument for not having it a school holiday - the schools will often have a significant ceremony - whereas if it was a school holiday, there might be far less recognition among the school kids who would be happily enjoying a day off school. The USA has their Memorial Day holiday in May :
