Paper Folding Layout

Hi All,

Since you guys do such wonderful work, I wanted to challenge myself with a new technique.

I tried to recreate, with a little bit of me thrown in, the page that Anna Griffin did on DIY/Scrapbooking recently.

It took 2 days but it is done.

Here's the link (s):

Hi Irene,

I took 3 similarly but complementary colored paper with a pattern then took an additional 3 colored papers (all the same) in the 12x12 size. In this layout I chose K&C paper and complementary paper from the Slab stack. Choose one of the papers as your MAIN BACKGROUND.

The first thing I did on the PURPLE is measured 3/8" and marked it with a pencil, then did it again but at 5/8" repeating until the paper is completely marked. Do it with all three solid papers.

I used my fiskar's 12" paper cutter as a guide and used my burnisher to score gently each line to make the paper easier to fold. Once all the lines are burnished. Fold the papers like a fan. It will curl but I found scotch taping it on the reverse keeps it flat. Once everything is secured on the back. Measure on the front or back in intervals of 2 inches. That is the first set of paper.

Glue everything down neatly mitering the corners (which I screwed up which is why the corners have the solid piece of purple). as a frame.

Repeat until everything is done as far as the solid color is concerned.

The next SINGLE SHEET is your choice. Measure 1" and mark, then 3/8 and mark until all done. Fold. Set aside after securing the back of it with tape.

Take a piece of cardboard or chip board and measure 1" for top and bottom of your picture. Take the piece of paper you set aside and "wrap" the board. Adhere the picture on the front of it and then secure the board with 4 foam pop dots and place in the open area of the project. I chose an area of the paper where I could recover some of the flowers and butterflies to use as accents.

Once it is secured in the middle take the paper you recently folded and mark 1/2" all the way down and cut the lines. Use the paper as your guide and start gluing down. I made sure that the solidly patterned (similarly toned) cornered neatly. I did the corners first then filled in afterward.

I took the flowers and butterflies and cut them out neatly then cut in certain areas on the flowers and curled them for dimension and then added a pop dot on the back to add even more dimension. The butterflies I cut carefully and then "mushed" them to make them dimensional. and pop dotted them on the flowers or near them.

Then you are done.

The folding took me a day and a half to do and then an hour and half to assemble. thank god for slow cookers.

Hope this helps.

Wow Kate! That's quite a layout, and very beautiful. I don't get DIY, but your directions sound very easy to follow. I'll have to try paper folding sometime.

Thank you for the instructions. You sure did a great job. I really love the flowers. I love paper folding. I saw on Simply Quilts a few weeks back the lady was folding quilting squares and making a flower with it and I have been trying to do it with paper so I could add it to my scrapbooking. Hugs Irene

I have the directions for that one somewhere........I'll try to find it for you. I did a paper flower on my daughter's graduation page out of vellum and put her kindergarten picture in the middle. Sandy

Hi Dave,

I saw this being done on DIY/Scrapbooking with Sandy Genovese.

Since I've been in and out of the hospital fighting the flu, I've had plenty of time to fold paper. :-) Hugs, Kate

Hi Amy,

No I don't have the patience of a saint, just the patience of a Taurus. :-)

Actually I've been wanting to do this for awhile and I did the folding while I was sick and told to "relax" by the hospital staff. I hope the explanation is easy to understand.
