I am not 100% sure about the CD. Howver, how about creating an envelope for it from say vellum and then putting the vellum on acid free cardstock. that way there is little no no chance that the CD will cause any problem to any picture you may have for many, many years.

I have tested acidic things with my PH pen and then tested non acidic and it worked fine. (I just did a test on a known acid free scrap after testing on a known acid paper and the pen showed correst). I use the pen so I don't waste the archival mist just because I don't know. That way I am only spraying known acidic items that I really want to preserve.

This question had me curious, so I asked my DH who is the technical person inthe house and who works with computers. He is not sure but thinks most likely they would be acid free because any acid in them would etch away at the materials they are made from(plastic, metal) and would cause problems with the data. Apparently the companies that produce them have done research into the longevity of the cd's and data on them. That would probably be a clue too. The longer they are supposed to last the less likely they would cause problems. HTH.

Thank you! I am a retired techie myself so the cds seemed safe to me as well. I want to get a ph pen, and suspected they were trying to sell me the mist. There was a rather nasty crack made that night about me trying to keep up with how much I was spending. (Was it wrong for me to ask what my tab was when I bought something? I didn't think so until one of the shop owners looked at me and said, "Oh, so we're on a budget, ARE WE????") I felt uncomfortable about it and left soon after.

Glad I could help Rachel. I too work on a budget, so don't feel bad about it. I tend to track it myself so I don't have to put up with nasty cracks. I am also highly likely to take my business elsewhere if the owners/employees are rude or pushy. Likewise I'm more than happy to give my business to those that are helpful and respectful. My DH is very supportive of my hobby but I know he would not be if I was careless about my spending. He did question the mist because of the expense until I showed him the pen.
