RCS Scraobook Retreat Alternative -

I have spent many, many hours doing searches to find alternatives based on needs and not location. It's not exactly cheap...but it is very easy to fly into, they do pick-up at the airport as long as they are contacted ahead of time, it is well set up, and all meals and snacks are included. Many, many of you can drive there in less than 5 hours and many in less than 2 so perhaps you can consider the price, while thinking of those that will still need to fly. I have sent an email to get more information on actual speeling facilities as I know that we have members that might have special needs. Note that for an extra $75 you can stay an extra two nights (Thursday and Monday).

Check it out and let me know what you think.

I believe that they will give a 10% discount for a group. And perhaps if we can all agree and book early... Also they offer a business discount, so I have approached them that way as well to see if that is better for us.

The place is 42 miles from the Indianapolis airport and they will pick up at the airport in a white stretch limo for free if there are at least 6 people and you contact them in advance. Here are the driving times:

Anderson, Indiana - 1:10 (One hour and ten minutes) Louisville, Kentucky - 1:35 (One hour and thirty minutes) Cincinnati, Ohio - 1:35 Dayton, Ohio - 1:45 Danville, Illinois - 1:50 Champaign, Illinois - 2:20 Fort Wayne, Indiana - 2:30 Bowling Green, Kentucky - 2:50 Columbus, Ohio - 3:00 South Bend, Indiana - 3:10 Chicago, Illinois - 3:35 Benton Harbor, Michigan - 3:40 Nashville, Tennessee - 3:45 Toledo, Ohio - 3:50 St Louis, Missouri - 4:10 Kalamazoo, Michigan - 4:15 Detroit, Michigan 4:40 Cleveland, Ohio 4:50

They have gift certificates...so perhaps you can talk family members into paying for your retreat as a Christmas/Birthday/Anniversary present.

I'm just trying to find a way to make it easier on the maximum number of people and to help RJ work on the logistics of a meet that would be close if not in Columbus. In this case, losts of scrap room, lots of eating, close enough to an airport. I know that reopens the city thing, though for our purposes, we can consider this Ohio as it is so close.

I'm gonna talk to my mom and see if she would want to do this with me.

We need to bond some more and I think this would be great.

We'll see.

Wow, looks like a great place, M-C!

Would be perfect for me if I was still in college in Indiana. Unfortunately, a little far from the west coast. Maybe someday when all my vacations don't need to be family oriented.

Thanks for all your hard work researching places!

Someone just mentionned that this is one of the links that RJ mentionned. I went really? I never heard of her saying anything about Indianapolis or flying into anywhere other than Columbus. She emailed me this morning and mentionned Indianapolis that was why I looked in that direction! That post has now been forwarded to me.

Like I said before this is an option that needs to be considered by each of you based on overall cost for transportation, hoousing, food and ease of access. I'll post some flight information for this choice shortly on the website page.

M-C, I just saw this post after reading the one from RJ and looking at the Olde Geneva Dairy site. I can't believe I had never heard of it before. I really like the fact that it was designed for scrapbookers. Driving time for me would be 3 hours and 15 minutes (according to mapquest). Though I am still flexible on location. I'll wait to see what everyone comes up with. Sandy

This place sounds ideal! I think the cost is fair too, since it includes meals and snacks. I would even favor this kind of place in any state! LOL

This is only a 32 hour drive for me. Just kidding I couldn't resist. It looks great. I'm surfing the site and checking it out. I love that they'll pick you up at the airport when you're in a group. Very thoughtful service.

Wouldn't that be awesome if every state had a scrapping retreat spot like this? We'd all be in heaven!! LOL

Are we talking only a weekend at the Dairy? Am I right that it is $275 for the weekend including food and possible ride from airport? Then $75 on top of that for 2 more days? I checked it would cost about $303 for airfare. I'm thinking for a fun splurge I might be able to afford it. Comes out to around $700. I do family things all the time and the kids do things without me and the hubby does things without me.... it's time for Mama to get out on her own. :D

Yes, it's a weekend. The $275 covers lodgeing and meals from Friday night through Sunday noon. The extra $75 (if you want to) adds Thursday & Monday. I'm guessing that'll be Thursday night through Monday noon? And yes, it IS "time for Mama to get out on her own"! LOL

There is one about 45 minutes from me, but it seemed awfully expensive. In fact I think with airfare added to this retreat it would come out to about the same amount of money as the one near me.

I'd FIND a way to afford it. I have friends that have gone there that is why I mentioned it... they provide ALL meals and everything.. if you bring all your own stuff (they do h ave their own store)... pretty much the cost of it and gas/airfare is set... you don't even have to leave.. my one friend said she wished she brought 3 pairs of PJ's because thats all everyone wore, that and sweats! LOLOL

OH that sounds so comfy! Spend the whole weekend in flannel PJ's.

I'm hoping that the lady will reply to my email tomorrow about just how many people this resort can take and it may be that it has to be RCS members only if there is not enough room! I also plan on talking to her to see how we could squeeze more people if we needed to. Are there hotels nearby?

It looks like the tables have 20 seats set up but they keep on talking about more than 6. So... I'll let everyone know more about that when I hear back from her.

I've put up some flight information including flight to Indianapolis on

see even if I was in school, I could swing that... I couldn't stay the LONG weekend but I could do the weekend.... and anyone local to me could carpool with me... I could fit one person from Dayton area in my car (I'd borrow the wagon if we needed for two people). Or if someone has to drive up I75, I'll chip in for Gas...

Shelbyville is around 13-15 miles away (towards Indy) and there are several motels there. Though I think it would be best if everyone that comes was together in the same place. Hopefully they have arrangements for that. If space will be limited and everyone who wants to come can't I'd rather go somewhere else. I sent the info to some of the members of the group I belong to here at home. We've been looking for a place like this to go to. Six of us went to the CK convention in Nashville last year and had a ball. Sandy

Assuming that is the final choice, just don't steal our long-weekend...whenever that ends up being! LOL

No way - it just means I might get to go twice. I noticed they take paypal. I'm going to have to get to selling more stuff on ebay so I can just pay for it with my auctions. that way the trip, if I get to go won't come out of the family funds. Sandy
