Re: Carl Paper Trimmer

I love it.

Pros: You can cut lots of scrapbook paper or cardstock at once, which is great when you are having a class. The clamp holds the paper tight so there is no slippage and that makes for a clean cut. Easy and fast.

Con: You need to replace the strip under the circular cutting blade once in a while because the blade cuts into it as you roll the blade back and forth but I think all circular cutters have that problem. The blade needs replacing too but not as often.

I have their 12-inch personal rotary trimmer (the one with a skinny base).

The main pros for me are that it was fairly cheap and the blade and cutting strip are easily replaceable, and that it's easily portable... I can carry it around with me and leave my bulky fiskars cutter at home.

The biggest cons are that a)the clear plastic is brittle - I've smashed two of them by dropping them on the tiled floor :( (on the other hand, I liked them enough to search out replacements both times!) and b) if you rush your cutting it will go crooked every single time. You need to go slow and gentle and hold the paper down firmly so that it doesn't move while you're cutting. Lastly, c) it doesn't have a pull-out ruler and the measuring strip is less than two inches long on either side of the blade, so it's best for cutting 'by eye' or doing small things.

I still like mine, and it's the one I keep on my desk for easy access, but if I'm doing something fiddly or where it all has to be exactly the same I'll pull out my Fiskars trimmer with the long ruler...
