Beginner

I just found this group. I am a beginner at scrapbooking. Do most of you scrapbook the traditional way or the digital way?

I am hoping to learn scrapbooking techniques from reading posts and I will welcome emails too. Please write me with advice if you want.

Thank you.

Hi. I'm Christina from Oklahoma. I do traditional scrapbooking. I cant get into digital. I don't know how. :)

Just ask any questions you have. Everyone is so helpful.

I'd look at everyone's post and see if they have any links with layouts to look at. It's always good to see other peoples work for ideas.

Welcome!!!

Where are you from?

Hi Jenna,

I'm M-C and I'm a transplanted Canadian from the beautiful province of Quebec, who is currently living in Florida with my US born husband. Most of my scrapbooking is traditional 3D but I recently found a software program that is so easy that I am now doing some digital scrapbooking too. I think that I will always prefer 3D but that digital is a great way to put away all those beautiful pictures that don't make it into my scrapbook. Right now they are all over my computer hard drive and usually when I want one, I have to search long and hard to find it. It's my humble opinion that digital pictures left on a hard drive are worse than our old habits of stashing our old paper pictures in a box, as future generations will not likely come across our old hard drives and be able to retrieve the pictures.

One of the easy ways to find a lot of our online galleries and learn more about us is to go to our website. You may want to just browse around, but take a moment to read our FAQs and also to visit us (Click on Meet US and then on June 2005 Roll Call List) I am currently working on updating the list so hopefully the 2006 list should be up there shortly!

I know that you will make some great friends here and that there will always be someone to answer any question that you may have. Again, welcome and please do ask questions and if you can share some of your work with us as you get scrapping!

I'm probably one of the few strictly digital scrappers here. I was doing it for 5 years or so before I learned there was a name for it. I do my layouts in PageMaker (a general desktop publishing program, not one dedicated to scrapbooking).

If you want to see some samples of most of them, they're online at

All are 8.5x11 except #10, which is 8.5x5.5 (that was a challenge!). Only have the cover of that one online, tho. Welcome, Jenna.

Hi Jenna! Welcome to the wonderful world of scrapbooking :)

My advice to you is don't get too carried away buying 'stuff'. There are a bazillion different ways to spend your money and most of then don't really help you produce a finished result. If you want to invest in supplies, get tools and equipment to make your own page decorations rather than paying an inflated price to get something that was made in a factory... The tools might seem expensive, but if you stop to think about how much you'll use them, they're well worth the money.

Thanks to everyone who replied to my post. For those who asked, I am from Virginia.

Thanks also to those who emailed me. I hope to learn alot from this group,

I am looking for two things:

  1. Paper window mats for my photos. I have several photo mats from my framer but they are much too thick for an album page.

  1. Self adhesive clear bags to seal and display my photos. You see, I sell at arts and crafts fairs and need these to protect my photos.

There are tools you can get that will let you cut your own photo mats from any kind of paper/cardstock you like... one is the colluzzle, another are the Fiskars circle/oval/shape cutters. Or you can trace your own with a template and cut it out by hand... You can use any thickness of paper for a scrapbook, no need for mounting board.

Try googling for it. I'm sure there are suppliers out there.

Welcome to the group Jenna. I scrapbook the traditional way, although this weekend I tried digital for the first time. I enjoyed that also and will probably do more of it. My girls were very fascinated with the digital and spent this afternoon playing with the tools trying to figure them out.

Welcome to the group, Jenna. One of the places I get my bags from is

They have every size you would need. I buy 12x12 bags to store my kits in that I put together for crops. My friend orders when I do to save shipping and she gets bags that fit her cards she sells. You might want to take a look and see if they have the sizes you need. Sandy from Southern Indiana

Whereabouts, Jenna, if you don't mind my asking. I grew up in the NoVa (Springfield) area from age 4 to my late 20s. My parents spent 25 years in the Shenandoah Valley. Love VA if you could get rid of all but one snow per season (or it only snowed on weekends -- LOL) & the humidity in the summer.
