Seasonal 1950's LO uploaded

Hi everyone,

Just uploaded a LO using a photo of DH making a visiting to Santa. Found it among MIL's effects while digging for info for my genealogy.

My side border has been enhances using the Peel-Offs...since we have been talking about them the last couple of days. LOL All that chat inspired me since my last LO was around March :o)

Hello Marilyn,

It is great that you managed to do this layout - it is such a cute photo of your husband and a great page. I think good quality acid free peel-offs can be effective, especially the shiny gold and silver ones. Especially if there is a group of them (instead of a lonely single one), like on your page.

I have also used peel-offs on one of my layouts here:

Marilyn I love your layout. The picture of your dh is so cute. I like the way you used the Peel-Off's.

Thanks Klara....I felt the American Traditional Designs paper colours fitted the era of the picture but it needed something extra. I used the peel-off strips to cover the bauble ribbonsand give it a foiled paper look. I also added some subtle sheen to the baubles with gold highlighers & glitter pens. Seemed to do the trick for me although many of the techniques don't show that well when you photographs them :o)

I have used peel-offs on some (though not many) of my LO's, colouring them to suit if necessary. I think I actually prefer them to stickers....which I sometimes feel are too cutesy for my taste. I also love to rubber stamp and heat emboss on LO's. The peel-offs can be a reasonable substitute for that look without having to buy even more stamps LOL

Like the baby LO you did...very pretty! TFS

Thanks Cathy...glad you like it :o) The picture is so much of the era.....faces polished clean and sunday best clothes to go to the depatment store to visit Santa Claus. DH is chuffed to bits with this LO! He has taken a copy of the photo to work today and took one of his maternal grandparents and family I had done some repair work on yesterday. You can see that photo here

I may still do a bit more restoration work on the photo but I don't want to go to far and loss to much detail. Some areas were beyond repair so I had to just do my best with it.:( Just to add to the interest.....this was DH's maternal grandfather's second family and he kept all this children on the wages of working as a Hansom Cab driver in the Cowcaddens, Glasgow.

Thanks Cathy :o) We have been tacking about Peel-Offs for the last few days on the NG. I believe they are just new in the US and called Class A Peels.....although they have been very popular in the UK and Australia for about 10 years. They are outline stickers, similar to if you had stamped and heat embossed an image...except you just peel these and stick down. You can then paints, colour, glitter the gaps. The are truly versatile for scrapbooking, cardmaking and altered art projects. Link to see the US variety -

Marilyn, You did a fantastic job on restoring that photograph. I'm impressed! Sandy

Thanks Sandy....I will probably tweak a "little" more but I think it looks not bad considering the damage it had sustained. We figure that the picture is around eighty years old.

Lots of my MIL's photographs were lost or badly damaged when somebody broke into her unit in the assisted living home. Fortunately, she was deaf without her hearing aids in, so she didn't wake up. If she had, the burglar may have assaulted her or worse! Her personal belongings however, were found strewn around the grounds of the home and the ones we are left with are precious now she is gone, even if they have some crinkles or are torn.

What a great LO for that photo Marilyn! The Peel-Offs really livened up the LO, without ditracting from the photo. Glad to see you scrapping again and all our chatter about the Peel-Offs inspired you!

The picture looks great. You did a good job restoring it.

Thanks Kenda....we have laughed and laughed over that picture since I made the LO. DH had forgotten all about its' existence so I have teased him endlessly posing and mimicking his innocent smile. At 57 he is becoming a little frayed around the edges and thinning on top...but he is still huggable & adorable.

Thanks Linda...for your thoughts on both projects. The family photo may still get a little more work or I may just make another copy and have another go. It is quite difficult since there is soooo much missing! I suppose that fixing what can be fixed and scrapping a new version is better than waiting until the whole surface has peeled away. Take care, Marilyn
